Here is the LOOOONG overdue Mikado Logo 480 Build thread. Hope you enjoy it

Frames and servos:

Frames are high quality and nicely executed. Servos ((3) Savox SH1250MG and (1) Savox SH1290MG) went in easy and lined up perfectly.

Frame Stiffeners, Bearing Blocks, and Braces:

These are well thought out, light, and make the whole assembly super strong with the least amount of added weight.

Landing Skids:

A smaller version of the Mikado skids was needed. These are identical to the Logo 500/600 series….just smaller

Tail Assembly:

This is the famed mikado tail assembly. It went together with no hiccups and was smooth.

Tail Box:

A smaller version and slightly different from the 500/600 tail but the overall design takes it's cues from it's bigger brothers. It uses a lot of the same parts as well so if you have bigger Mikado helis like the 500 and 600, the parts will be interchangeable….nice!

Tail Boom:

I chose to go with a CF tail boom I already had purely for aesthetics. Fit with the aluminum boom was just right so the CF Mikado boom was a drop in.

Main and Tail Drive Gears:

The kit comes with a .5 mode 212 tooth main gear. The tail drive gear is the same from the 500 and 600 series so once again Mikado put a proven performer in place to give this heli a driven tail that the 400 and 400SE do not have. A great addition...

Swashplate:

The swashplate came unassembled so it is the latest updated one. No worries here

Head:

Mikado chose to use the 500SX style headlock for the 480XXtreme. It is NOT the same headlock as the 500SX but the grips and bearings are. The main shaft is shorter as well. Here it is installed:

Electronics:

The Servos, YGE 90LV with built in phase sensor, Mikado 4015-1070KV motor, Mini VBAR are all included in the combo kit. All you need to add is a rx and flight pack to get this baby in the air. I soldered the motor leads included and an EC-5 on to my ESC. The wires on the motor are pre soldered. The wires on the ESC are the perfect length to the back tray so no extensions are needed. The ESC has a dual lead BEC and a single wire for the phase sensor. Here is how I chose to install and orient the electronics:

A few finished pics:

Blades installed (Edge 473 mains and Edge 72mmSE tails)

I have about 30 flights on the 480 right now and it has been solid. It feels light and agile in the air and with 4000 packs, 6 minute flights of light 3D are easily attainable. Hard 3D guys are looking at 4-5 minute flight times. This new machine is an awesome addition to the Mikado line!!!

Thanks Ron. I will try that. I did try a higher head speed. It flips better. That may be the problem I have.

How long is the logo 480 tail boom?

And if you can still tell, how far apart are the holes in the main shaft?

From the jesus bolt to the centre of the tail drive pulley

thanks

Looking to fit the solid vbar yoke onto my logo 400SE

BUT..... I have figured a way to have a driven tail rotor, so the distance between the holes is quite critical.

http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=397310

Depending on the distance between the holes will determine if I need to 480 yoke or the 550 yoke, or it is not going to work

:-)

Thanks Ron. Mine is real close to that now. I have been doing a lot of searching and reading about tail tweaking. I just redid my settings, ran the optimizer and tested it. I am getting just a slight kick now. Part of that could be pilot induced.

On hard collective. If I have it in a hover an punch out with full input it kicks. Not as bad as it was.
