I might be in the minority, but to me it looks like a copy.

It's a copy just like the Blade 350QX is a copy of the Phantom....Not at all except the color.lol....

For one,the Sky Hero is an over and under motor design which is a major difference...That alone makes them totally different models and then the skids are completely different aside from the single leg design...The hardware is completely different.

All helis have four legs on the skids...Are they all clones?

The color is about as far as the similarities go.
How can a six motor/six prop Tricopter and a traditional three motor/three prop Tricopter be copies of each other?

I literally never use the word literally right.

For me, there are similarities between them that tell me Align was drawing inspiration from the Sky Hero when designing their product. All Align did was change some little things here and there. It doesn't matter to me. I don't even care for multi-rotors. But I was shocked when I first saw this image. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised. I'm out.

They changed some small things like how many motors it has or if it has to use an over and under hexa flight control vs a typical tricopter.

And the over and under quads like Sky Hero have to have a octo flight control which rules out a lot of systems whereas the Align is a simple quad.

These aren't small things...They are totally different machines.

I literally never use the word literally right.

All you need to do when copying something, is to change 10% of the design...then its not a copy. They can claim they had the same idea.

strange because I just watched many videos on youtube and the sky hero SPY (or Y6 does use 6 motors and props) In fact in this shape you must do this or have a tail that can rotate.

As far as the Spyder X4/X8 they seem to offer it both ways. either as a standard quad or with top and bottom motors.

And on the vids I saw there was a huge variety of flight controls used, from Naza to some other open source designs. (nothing special needed)

In fact this vid has some really cool scenery.

I had never heard of Sky Hero until this thread. Maybe that was the OP's true intention here.

I see some similarities, but similarities also exists in most other quadcopters. Carbon boom is not a SkyHero first, nor are motor pods and general frame layout. So it looks similar in CAD drawings because they also have carbon boom and white motor pods, big deal. If Sky Hero products are so good, it's only matter of time 100% verbatim knockoffs from China will be flooding ebay. At least Align makes their own flight controller and gimbal system. I'd much rather buy from a more established company than some mom and pop shop which may not be around next day.

Who made the first "quad" copter? Don't know and don't care. Every quad that came after the first is a copy. It doesn't make any difference. Buy the one that you think has the best features per dollar spent. End of discussion. Sky hero wasn't the first quad either, so they stole the design from somebody. Should we stop buying eating utensils because the company that makes knifes, forks and spoons stole the idea from the first guy that made a fork. I don't think so. Who made the first pod and boom helicopter. for sure it wasn't Align, Synergy, Kasama, Whiplash, Alees, Thunder Tiger, Goblin, Avant, et al. Should we stop buying these machines because they are copies of the first pod and boom design. I don't think so.

That's what I said...The Align has three motors and props. As well as a servo controlled tail boom.
They are different machines completely.

EDIT...Sorry...I was thinking of the Turnigy model...NOT Align.

As for...
(nothing special needed)
To run in the X8 configuration, you have to have an OCTOCOPTER control system which leaves out most of the common multi control systems.
Most systems only support up to 6 motors.

Actually...my biggest mistake is that Align doesn't look like they are even planning on producing a tricopter.

Sorry about that.

The quads are still completely different machines though.

Beware the new RR member whose first post seems to be an unsolicited rave review of a product most of us haven't yet heard about. The post begins as if it were ad copy, launches into a diatribe calling Align "criminals" for copying something not yet in the mainstream, then posts pictures as apparent proof of claim.

Only the pics really look nothing like the Sky Pro, and carry no Align marking.

Mark should send him an invoice for advertising.
