PsychoZ
But if he did that you would have pissed and moan that he should have got out of his car and taken care of the call.
How do ya know what I would of said, you don't know me or anyone else OR what someone else would of said..
If he got his fat ass back in the car,I would of said "thats exactly what I would of done" ..That POS cop already knew AND said he was scared of dogs so why in the hell did the idiot get out?IF he did the right thing, this would of never happend..The right thing would of been stay in the car and call animal control being as thats THEIR job,not the trigger happy idiots job..His job is to make sure noone was in danger which noone was and wait for them to show up..If things were handled the correct way and animal control was called, this would of never happend..

Your as bright as the cop ..

I agree with BladeStrikes. If the cop arrived and a big dog was running around loose, he should have called animal control instead of kicking at the dog and then shooting him. The dogs were simply doing what they thought their job was, i.e. protecting their yard. Yes, the owner should have had them inside or in a fence if he lives in suburbia, but it doesn't excuse the police officer taking a stupid, risky, unnecessary shot right next to a house. When you fire a gun you have to know exactly where the bullet will stop, and you can't tell me he know that. The cop put that family at risk instead of protecting them.

The town this happened in is a rural area and has a population of just over 2,000 people. I'm pretty sure they have no animal control. In fact, I'm guessing that about 99% of the towns in this state have no animal control. Most large cities in the US have a larger population than the entire population of Idaho.

I'm not saying the cop was right or wrong, I'm just saying that a lot of people in this thread have never lived in the country and are thinking he could have just called for backup and had a bunch of other cops there in minutes or called animal control. The reality is that one of those is not an option at all and backup (if available) would probably be from the country sheriff's office or the next nearest town.

Every single town big or small has a Vet for animals and where theres a vet, they have animal control..I lived in the country close to half my life and the vets/animal control is MUCH better/bigger in small towns vs big citys..In small towns/country,they have ALOT more to worry about and alot more going on ---> Deer, bears, snakes ect... on top of all the live stock that gets loose..
That cop didn't care or bother calling this in to the right people..He already had his gun out so clearly planned to shoot the dog and didn't give two ****s about it..
He admited he was scared but got out anyways ,I would of stayed in the car and called it in or had someone else come out that wasn't scared of a barking dog ..He could of also used pepper spray other than shooting it..Was no reason what so ever to shoot that dog...

If anyone here was that cop and you were scared of the barking dog, would you get out of the car with gun out ready to shoot, use pepper spray or call it in?

What part of if you call the public baby sitter in to take care of business, your not going to like it!

Dont you understand.

Its the owners fault plain and simple.

You bleeding mutt lovers wont be happy until a kid gets mauled to death, then you ALL would stil complain when the cop shoots the mutt.

Here in the country we just shoor dogs like that without calling the cops. There are signs on fence post everywhere to take care of your dogs or they wil be shot.

Guess what owners take care of their dogs.

When we do see trouble its just like this, more then one dog.

Fools forget he ws dealing with 2 large dogs.

By the way, I live in the country. My dogs run loose like everyone else's here. They pretty much stay on my 9 acres, but if they bother someone I'll correct them.

I would like to see an example of these signs. Please post a pic. Do you take into account a dog that may have gotten loose from a responsible owner? Yes, this does happen. Or is it just fun target practice?

I love my dog like a family member.

The only dogs that were shot were those harrassig livestock.

It was usually the owner who shot their own dog, after the fact.

Each time it was two dogs together, by theirselves they know better.

Uncles dog came home once with a hole in it next a cattle ranch. Uncle took beter care to make sure the dog stayed away. Dog loved to hunt but would harrass cattle. Hard to believe it dies of old age.

Sure, but if its trying to eat livestock, its another story.

Farmers would post the "animals act 1971" sign

You may not get the chance to "correct" your dog! if it does something stupid its probably going to pay for it with its life.

For example, one of my best friends dad drove his truck into a neighbors yard, got out while the neighbor was sitting on his porch, walked over to the dog and shot it point blank!

The guy jumps up and yells "what did you do that for? He said, "your dog and my dog just killed all my chickens, I already shot my dog before I came over" got in his truck and left. The neighbor never said any complaint about it.

I cant belive how much hate for the cop there is in this forum, but no complaints from you haters about the idiot dog owner???

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Well. That's because the cop's cowardly act trumps the dog owner's misgivings.

Well your just wrong , again I might add.

Cop was not a coward, he was called to stop a couple of rogue unsupervised mutts.

The cop didn't want to be there he had no choice. He was told to go take care of the BS, and that's what he did.

Bottom line, you want your dog to live? be good owner and supervise the animal

I don't think anyone here thinks cops are perfect, and innocent to boot.
