Out of curiosity, how many here would still be devoted X-Cell fans if parts production was transferred outside the US? Are quality parts made in Asia, Europe, or any non-US country acceptable or is U.S. made a requirement for Miniature Aircraft?

I don't personally see a way forward with US based production. But again, only time will tell.
That's a great question. I wish that I could answer right now. I would want to see the new production parts in person. Strictly for quality reasons...

...I, like you, don't see how the production can stay Stateside. If it could work, MinAir/FlyCo would still be making it work. I think it'll eventually move overseas. Sad, but it's the way these things tend to work. I hate it for the employees; I hate it for the long-time MinAir guys...It's just not a good situation. You can bet that if, and that's a big if, MinAir is purchased, there won't be any new production this season. All of the parts currently in stock are all we've got.

I'm going to keep flying 'em all. However, I'm keeping my eyes on the horizon. Perhaps good things will come.

-Joey
I feel the same as Joey, with MA staying state side. Until the cost of labor begins to climb oversea's, like it has here, and exceeds our cost, then everything will come back to the states. Despite our labor cost, we will look profitable.
I don't think the price is a major factor. I see a lot of newbies and know-it-alls proclaiming "boutique heli", "too expensive" and the like. In this hobby $100 isn't a good reason to piss your pants, and cry about expensive toy helicopters.
"Boutique heli", "too expensive"...they should look at some of the new heli's from JR America! Try $1200.00 to $4600.00 for a 90 size heli!

Which JR heli are you referring to that's $4,600?

Anything with the name Sylphide in it has always been pricy. I don't know if I could find an example of one with a $4k+ price tag but most Sylphides make MAs look easy on the credit card.

Have 2 listed over 4000 on their site does include a zenoah motor and silencer for camera work. They're more specialized birds.

The Sylphide is their top of the line F3C competition machine.

The Vibe line has had quite a few offerings and the new Forza is also on the horizon.

As an aside, I recently purchased and built a Thunder Tiger E720. I must say I was amazed at the quality. I had only had an opportunity to see the E720 a few times in person before making my purchase decision and admit I was a bit hesitant at first. Once I received the kit and started assembling it I was really impressed with the quality and simplicity of the kit.

Sad to see this, I still have my fist MA never crashed 1004CT from 1999 it is still crisp and clean. I have been through 20+ Fury and Tempest as well but i always kept my first love and glad I did!

Chalk this one up with T&T Engineering, Len Mount, and a couple others that my brains already filed away...

I say get her built ,,and fly the hell out of it. Get the basic crash parts and hope for the best. You are not alone being a Min Air owner.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

That certainly looks like a typo to me. The same JR part number is available for $3,900 less here:

How long do we suppose it will be before parts dry up for MA models? The wippy gasser in particular. Is there enough parts inventory out there to keep em in the air for a while or are there going to be shortages fairly soon. Once the rush to dump is over and the dust settles are parts going to be way over priced cause they are no longer produced? Is there an aftermarket parts producer for parts that can't really be made such as gears?

All good questions!

For some time…as I'm told.

Not for awhile…roughly a year.

Like anything in this hobby, I'm sure there are "other" parts that could be adapted.

No one knows for sure. Who besides MA actually knows how many are in inventory and who knows what demand will be. It's anyone's guess.

There are parts everywhere! Tower still has parts for the Furon 450 (they were the distributor when it first came out). Just go to towerhobbies and search FURION and you will see many pop up.

They should update people on parts especially if they are still selling kits.

closure of MA

It is a sad day indeed to here another great heli mfg., might bite the bullet. How does Avant do it and MA cannot? Maybe Avant will be next. There are lots of questions on my mind about the whole deal. It could very well be that Flyco did not see enough money coming from the MA line and has decided to dump it.

The real reason for higher wages here is the Unions and Big Government are in bed together. If they were both out of our hair, we would all be much better off. We surely do not need unions. You get a big raise and benefits this year, and next year it comes around as inflation, and bites you in the butt.

It is not governments job to create jobs. That is what people like you and I do when we decide to go into business. If it were not for all the regulations, and taxes small business would once again flourish in the USA again. That is why mfgs. move to China. Very little regulation, and dirt cheap wages.

Lets all hope that another American manufacturer decides to pick up MA. If someone in Europe would manufacture MA products, it would cost even more than here.
