My complaint is the Align design quality. The parts quality is certainly improved and is as good as any but the botique F3C heli's.

28 Channels. Spektrum, Futaba, Jr all use from 10~20% of the bandwidth that their protocols allow - packet ... long pause. Using 20~40%, doubling the packet size, is no big deal. There will be no added latency - as long as the processor in the TX can assemble the data fast enough.

Is S.Bus2 UDI ?
Unfortunately No, it is not.

UDI was created by the VBar dev team, and is supported by VBar, Spartan, BeastX, JR, Jeti, and Graupner that I know of right now

Well then, since the majority of bus stuff is Futaba, it's not a standard. I have been in the hobby for 45 years and there is no standard servo connector either.

The JR servo connector (or the Futaba servo connector with the ridge shaved off) has been the "standard" servo connector for about 25 years.

A Futaba HD servo connector with the tab removed WILL NOT FIT IN A JR RECEIVER. Now there were people in my club that offered to plug them in for me. If by standard do you mean that you can jam then in if it is not your receiver or servos ?

It's been measured. I have some numbers I measured floating around here on RR somewhere. Looking...

Is the UDI spec publicly available? Is there a governing body for this spec?

Ace,

VSTABI is the initial driver for UDI. Basically, it is an auto-detecting serial interface.

Maybe I should have said duty cycle. What I meant is that the packet takes 1 ms and a packet is sent every 10 ms. SO if the packet takes 2 ms it is not a problem. The processor(s) in the TX may be a problem. Changing the frequency for hopping is very fast and much less than a 1 ms. In other words, 28 vs. 14 channels is not a protocol problem.

Look up UDI, AKA XBUS Mode 2

FBL manufacturers are standardizing on it, and dragging radio companies along kicking and screaming
UDI was created by the VBar dev team, and is supported by VBar, Spartan, BeastX, JR, Jeti, and Graupner that I know of right
now
My point is it's not an open industry standard is it? Everyone else is just implementing it for compatibility reasons.

It would be nice if there was a telemetry sensor standard protocol including TX display and logging - but it ain't gonna happen ! And I don't want third parties running amuck in my TX s/w anyway.

I'll wait to see the price before I make a decision to buy one or not. I very much like the changes compared to JR's previous flagship, the 12X. I absolutely hated the analog throttle trim and momentary switches (hard to reach and heavily sprung switch located just below right and left gimbals) on the 12X. They were not well conceived IMO. I like the 28X metal gimbals and standard USB interface. Wish it had WiFi and Bluetooth. Wireless connections should be standard on computer radios by now. I also like that the 28X uses an aluminum chassis with a plastic housing. This saves weight and provides a stable platform to mount the electrical components and gimbals. Anyone who has or had the 12X will tell you it's heavy (or substantial depending on how you look it it) even though it uses a very cool magnesium housing. I suspect the price will be close to $2,100. That was the original price of the 12X wasn't it? Perhaps elimination of the magnesium will bring it down closer to the $800 range of the Spektrum DX18. One can always be hopeful. All in all, I'd say JR has done a good job with the 28X design.

I recently bought my first Android phone, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I absolutely love it. I dont know what it is that has you not liking Android but I have not found the same problems yet.

I have owned an Apple Ipod 4th gen, I can say I do not like dealing with ITunes, that is a hassle in my opinion. I would'nt want my TX to be tied to Itunes in any way, no thanks.

you can say what you want about quality, but if you have ever built a JR helicopter, then build an Align, you will DEFINATELY see and feel a difference. Even the instruction manuals and such are much better. MUCH better

I agree, I have the same phone, took a bit to get used to the screen size but wouldn't trade it over an iphone any day of the week. Android is ..to me kinda like Linux, much more open source out there, the iphone everything has to go through apple, that got old real quick

It seems alot of smart phone users view the Iphone as common place but now that Im used to looking at my screen and I watch most of my coworkers on their Iphones with the screens about 10 inches from their faces trying to see something, makes me shake my head, Sheep!

For me screen size is important and a big factor in deciding which phone I bought as well as my TX, for the price I paid I feel the 11X has a nice screen.
