As we were at the flying field yesterday someone mentioned reading topics on RR, but not posting. That made me wonder... how long have I been a member of RR and how many posts do I have? My hope was that I didn't spend too much of my time posting and the time I did spend was useful to some extent.

This is what I found- I have been on here a lot longer than I thought and had fewer posts than I realized. Both good things. On Saturday I will have been registered on RR for twelve years and still have under 2,000 posts.

Thank you Mark for a great site to be able to share this hobby we love!!!

Yeah...?

I've been on here about 12 weeks and have more posts than you.

Most of them are not very useful to others either...
but I'm retired and don't have a whole lot to do most days,
I see both of those as good things

I think the numbers and status should be removed. Too many people put stock what a RR Professor means and a lot of bad info gets passed on with no proof.

We know. We know!...Move on.lol...That is NOT the topic here

I have spurts...A year without posting and then a month of non stop

I do a lot more reading than posting though.
I like the group here...I have memberships at a few other forums that I read daily and have never even posted in except maybe a dozen or less in 5 years.

Forum Topic "Post Count"
I too agree with the numbers being removed. Way too much BS being posted just to run up the number.

Like you guys derailing a thread and not saying anything on topic?
Is that the kind of posts that bother you?

Yeah...really?

Removing the numbers will not stop me from posting meaningless BS.

The post count is important to me for the classifieds.
Just so I know the guy has been around a while and will likely be here tomorrow.

It has no reflection on knowledge or ability.
Drop it and move on...Sheesh.

Are you talking to me?
I'm agreeing with you, and you can't see it?

Exactly my point...I have less of both than most guys here, but Have lots of posts.

It's good to give the members something that some of them value.
It makes them less likely to screw up their account by running scams in the classifieds.

Lots of other reasons to leave well enough alone.

Don't like it?
Don't read it.

Yes, I agree completely!

If it is of value to some then leave it alone, it certainly doesn't bother me.
I really try not to post information that I'm not sure about, without a disclaimer at least.

I pay more attention to the substance of a post than the guys count.

Sometimes I think the whole status should be inverse of what it is. I know of a few "RRMasters" who I have met in real life and I wouldn't trust anything they told me about a r/c heli. I wouldn't even let them turn on a transmitter for fear they would mess it up. But give them a keyboard, YouTube and Google and they are r/c whizzes

I didn't realize how long I had been on here though. I remember the first real r/c helicopter forum- RCOnline. We had a lot of fun there. That phased out about the time RunRyder came on the scene.
Lots of stuff has happened in that time span!
Back to the post count and status- it doesn't matter to me either way. If a person's content is good, it is good. If it is bad, it is bad no matter what the status is.
Now for new people to the hobby, something relevant might be something like the Facebook 'Like' button, but it would be a 'Helpful' button, where you can click this on someone's response that genuinely answered your question with the correct information or helped you on your setup, etc. To be able to quickly see someone's "helpful" rating might be a good thing for our new friends in the hobby.

I agree. Ultimately what matters most is quality and not quantity. Perhaps something like this could work as well as cut down on the number of irrelevant postings if they would work against someone's helpful rating. I'm sure there are many here who want more quality and less quantity. For those who want quantity the off-topics section is available.

Instead of clicking a button that is supposed to say that the post was helpful...You could always just write it out..."That was helpful".

I know that would take a lot out of some people.lol...

This topic needs moved to off topics so these posts won't count and get someone's panties in a twist

Are you insinuating that Mac is talking out of both side of his mouth?

God, I know I'll be in trouble for this one.
