Guys, for a Kontronik motor in an e820, will both the long and short shaft versions work, or do you need a specific one to fit the bearing block? Any help is appreciated.

Pyro 800 or 850 400 kv long shaft version for a 14s set up. Those looking for even more power in each size can order the black competition versions.

Guys - quick follow- ups...

...Dr. Ben...I have one of the old PowerJazz Kontronik esc's. I think it will do 14s, so with a pyro 800-40' do you think I'll have any issues?

Also, can I use 105mm tail blades on an 800' or is it recommended to go to a greater length?

Any advice is appreciated,

Thanks!

I have used my old powerjazz esc on 15s in the past (700 e-heli) no problem. I still have 3 of these esc's on diff heli's and they continue to work fine. The only problem I have heard is that the PJ does not play well with some high pole scorpion and align motors (not sure why).

You should be ok with a kontronik motor but it might be worth checking with kontronik technical services to see what they think. They'll probably tell you to go out and buy a nice new kosmic, lol!

As far as tail blades go, 105's will probably hold the tail fine for sport flying but if you fly hard with lots of tail-stops you are probably going to want 115's imho.

Xmas cheers,

MINIMUM 115/16's

120-somethings would be better still. Remember that ideally this model does not need to be run at 2K plus to perform and that you have the better part of 200 (!) mm more blade on the head. It is reasonable to expect that tail blades longer than the size which work well with 700/720mm blades would be a better choice on the E820.

If you send me a reminder in a few weeks, I can put in an inquiry about the PJ with the Pyro800. KT is closed up for the holdays until the first part of January.

Making slow progress here...but i am stck on a pinion issue.

In terms of the pinion, if I mount it the way the manual suggests, the good news is that the pinion rests against the motor in the right direction to offset the force of the helical gear (which I assume will cause an upward pushing force)...the bad news is in this configuration, the pinion sits too high relative to the main gear and only meshes with about 2/3 of the main gear.

But, if I mount it upside down and pushed against the bottom of the motor mount, I get perfect main gear alignment, but the only thing protecting the pinion from slipping up the shaft due to the helical gear forces are the set screws. This may be ok, but it seems like the pinion will eventually slide up the motor shaft. I can't seem to find perfect 8mm washers to help me out either.

Just wondering if anyone else had the same issue?

leave it with the set screws on the bottom, helical pulls down, also you must put flat spots for the set screws on the shaft

+1
Helical gear pulls away from the motor. Seat it on the counter bearing.
