Looking at purchasing the motor for my Rush - do I need the long shaft or short shaft motor - e.g. Align 800MX - the 04 or 09 model?

Long shaft, sir. The shaft of the motor needs to fully penetrate the support bearing.

Thanks Scott - Looking at this motor vs. the Dominator or maybe some of the other brands out there. Honestly the 750MX in my Trekker pulls pretty good on my Trekker even running the 810's though it does like the 780's better.

I do want to run the lower KV motor so I can stretch the Rush if I'd like. So for running ~700mm blades I'm thinking of going with a 13T pinion. Do I get the Align 800 13T pinon H80G003XXW or does the ALeeS 13T pinion work well? I thought I read on HF that some guys were stripping main gears with the ALeeS 13T pinion. The Align 800 pinion looks like a good option as it's:
"Brand new M1 motor helical pinion with Stainless steel material. This high strength and high rigidity characteristics can help to increase wear resistance and longevity."

John,

Yeah, for 700 sized blades, a 13-tooth pinion and a lower KV motor will work fine. If you intend to stretch, go back to the stock pinion and you'll be fine. We don't have a 13 tooth pinion, we use the Align 600 mod 1 slant when we regear. I don't recall folks having problems with that pinion. I think the Lynx pinion was stripping gears, possibly because it wasn't mod 1.

Now, with a stretch, we strongly recommend using the stock pinion due to the diameter of 11 tooth pinions not meshing properly under the loading larger blades produce.

I hope I am not pushing my luck. I have no intentions of stretching mine but I am running a 540kv motor with an 11 tooth pinion. I only have one flight on it just tuning the fbl unit so far.

What kind of head speed are you wanting to run with the 540kv motor?

Using Mr. Mel's calculator this setup should be good for 1950 to 2500. I am just concerned about stripping a main gear using the 11t pinion.

just shopping for a motor now - probably wait until I sell my Trekker first though. sounds like for me it'll be a 13T with the 450-490KV motor. Might even get a couple of 4S packs to try low headspeed stuff.

We are running the kde 700-495 motor on ours with a 12 tooth pinion. We run 2150 on the head and with that kv we are pushing the limit on how high of head speed and haven good head room. The castle would like to have us come down another 25 rpms. The kde motor is an absolute brute and with the 12 we haven't stripped the gear but have broken teeth on the main gear. I would prolly solve that by going to the 13. I just chalk it up to the fact Ryan dosent show no mercy on the heli

I've seen the kde flown in a rush and it is definitely a brute! I wanted to build mine to be lighter though and the kds motor I am trying is almost a half pound lighter. Hopefully I will get out soon and really test this setup.

Well and being heavier is one thing but what we did to offset that is fly the rail 716 blades to give a little more lift.

VANHELI, i would not recommend using the 11T with a 540kv motor. chances of stripping the main gear are going to be very high. the stock 12T should be plenty with enough head room for any gov.

Thanks for the advice. I have been a little concerned with what I have been reading. I am going to switch to the stock 12. Has anyone else tried the kds motor on a rush yet?
