esco, what you don't get (and it's been proven a million times), is if we put the same amount into an investment account that we've paid into social security, we would have TONS more money at the end. Plus, when we die, we could give that money to our family. With SS when you die, it's gone, the government STEALS the balance owed.
I'm sure you don't get it because I'd bet you don't pay into SS. That money is OWED to us, it's OUR money that WE have paid in.

Where you get it wrong Z, is that we don't have a problem helping others, we tend to do that more than liberals (see charitable donations, Reps vs. Dems), it's not even close.
You have no proof to back up that assumption. But I will say this, Bill Gates is a liberal, and he personally donates more time and money then anyone ever has and most likely ever will as a single individual.

Bleeding Heart Tightwads.

Liberals show tremendous compassion in pushing for generous government spending to help the neediest people at home and abroad. Yet when it comes to individual contributions to charitable causes, liberals are cheapskates.Arthur Brooks, the author of a book on donors to charity, “Who Really Cares,” cites data that households headed by conservatives give 30 percent more to charity than households headed by liberals. A study by Google found an even greater disproportion: average annual contributions reported by conservatives were almost double those of liberals.

I didn't even BOTHER to provide the proof you always crow about because it's been shown and proven year after year after year.
When I say R vs. D in contributions, in this case I'm talking about those in politics that have no issue donating OUR money, not their own.
As far as Bill Gates, well good on him. But don't be so sure there's not other reasons for his philanthropy. Ever seen the articles on his inoculation "charity"???? Scary stuff.

I get a kick out of the little a##holes here who piss and moan about retired people who collect their SS benefits they paid into their accounts their entire lives just like they will do when that day comes. And, use that against them as being the problem of the "Free Sh#t" society that they themselves promote.

Hypocracy upon hyporacy from the left is expected and exposed on a daily basis here. If we could can the stupidity and irresponsibility of the left and sell it we could pay off the debt in short order.

Keep beating that same dead horse again eh??? Was it pork??? Maybe. But it WAS a project partially completed and needed funding to continue and finish and it IS a genuinely needed project and what's more, it IS SHOVEL READY. People are already working on the site. All of those people would've lost their jobs. I guess now you want people to lose their jobs eh???
But unlike you, they'd find another one.
Seems you have an awful lot of time on your hands lately. Getting that unemployment and foodstamps yet buddy???

I suppose you're against retired military veterans getting any kind of money too! I'm going to take a guess here as to why no one has answered you yet. I'm pretty sure they are still trying to wrap their heads around your level of stupidity. I guess no one ever really sat you down and explained to you how social security works. I would explain it to you, but liberals are programmed to not listen to anything that makes sense.

Most Americans are covered by some form of Social Security. Exceptions include some government employees and railroad workers, who are covered by other programs, and certain agricultural and domestic workers. But chances are, if you are a U.S. citizen and you work in the United States, you receive a statement in the mail every year that looks something like this:

Sample Social Security statement
Courtesy Social Security Online
If you receive this statement, it means that you are paying a certain percentage of your salary into the Social Security system -- and the idea is that you will get this money back once you retire so you have some extra money to live on once you stop receiving your paycheck.

The world is yours!

I will however say that the original idea of social security has been long lost. It now does provide assistance to anyone that meets certain criteria. For instance, my wife knows someone she went to school with that doesn't have the capacity to be a productive member of society, ever. She gets SS, has since she was very young, also receives it for her 3 children because she can not support them otherwise. Her boyfriend of many many years lives in her government funded house with her and their kids. They will never marry because she would lose the SS benefits. This should be a welfare case, not SS. The system was designed as to provide for those that pay in to it, but it has turned into an expense account for too many other things. SS has been used and abused to the point it is just a sham right now. I sometimes wish I didn't have to pay in for it at all and could just put the extra money I wouldn't be paying into my own personal retirement account. But it is not optional.

The world is yours!

When I originally applied for my SS benefits at age 62, I went in person down to the local SS office to handle it person to person rather than trying to pull it off on line or by phone.

When I got there the waiting room was rather large and full of people. I had to take a number and sit. There was only one other senior citizen there that I noticed. All the rest of the people there were young white ladies with kids and a lot of Hispanics. I settled in with a magazine of some kind expecting to spend a good portion of the day there.

I give them credit there as I did not have to wait very long. Got my application in with a very friendly little lady who was very helpful and was told I will see my first check within three weeks. I had the very distinct feeling that they did get us seniors in the room up first as I noticed the other senior that was there when I came in was at a booth next to me being waited on as the others there before me were waiting with their numbers in their laps.

In over 5 years of drawing my SS there has never been one single issue of that money not showing up in my account on time and the correct amount each month.

I will let you all figure out what all those youg single ladies with kids and the Hispanics were doing there at a SS office. It's not rocket science.

You put it nicely as a healthy mid 40 year old man sitting at your computer each hour of each day and night typing your bullsh#t and blaming others here for all to see each and every day and exposing yourself as unemployed, lazy and stupid.

You ARE a large part of the problem here in America.

And yet, every time there is a government money crisis, they threaten SS, but I would bet that if they did cut out for any period of time, it would only be the retirees whom paid in their fare share and not the "leeches".

Actually, my dad just got a raise on his SS checks. He paid his dues to be able to collect on it. The last 15 years of his working life were done with a bad back which he could have easily gotten disability for, but he stuck it out by finding a job that worked with his condition, he never once filled out anything for disability. The people that just give and refuse to do a lesser job should be forced to work any job they are capable of doing. My worthless uncle is a perfect example. He has some health problems and fought kicking and screaming for disability until he got it. He worked a desk job that in no way affected his health condition, but wanted to sit on his ass instead. If someone has put in their time and money, they deserve to get it back.

The world is yours!

Your Dad made his choice from either a choice or a need.

Its my guess that his choice is a need.

My other guess is that you will be doing the same when the time comes, and you ain't going to like it.

Did he have the financial mean to call it quits? If so that's his choice. If not, his choice as well. I am preparing for my life after I choose to retire. Unless something drastic happens with my retirement account, my wife and I will be spending our golden years enjoying life, not working ourselves to death. Again, "MY MONEY" is being put away in "MY" retirement account so I have the ability to do so. That is the lovely part about our "free" society, we are free to make these choices to plan to stop working and collect our own money back to support us in our golden years. Anyone that doesn't at least put a little away for that time is a fool. Even a small percentage of a paycheck makes a difference, and most times such a small amount isn't missed if it a pre tax deduction. If you are lucky enough to have an employer that has a very good plan and makes a matching contribution plus like I do, it adds up real fast. It's not rocket science, just a little planning for your future. If you are so proud, you feel you need to work until you draw your last breath, be my guest. In another 25 or so years, I plan on the highlight of my day being when my wife and I grab the morning paper and decide what to do that day, not what I am going to be eating for lunch at work.

The world is yours!
