I am about to build a new 550 and with all that I have read, I am concerned about the Talon 90 ESC. I have a CC Ice 100 that I could use but I am curious as to what everyone thinks is the better of the two. I will only do mild 3D and sport flying. Thanks.

Talon 90
I have heard of only start up problems ,,not after spooled up. You may have no problems. As the saying goes the squeeky wheel get the grease as far as forums go. Maybe most have not had this problem. Who knows for sure.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Another thing I have read is if pushed hard with a Pulse 5000 mah 65C lipo at 2500 headspeed the Lipo will get hot but the motor and esc will be cool.

Agreed, as long as you don't throw 550 blades on at that headspeed, you should be good to go.

550 kit with 3GX comes with the new Align 550 blades

550 kit without 3GX unit comes with the new Align 520 blades

Not sure why this is apart from a sales gimmick

My Talon 90 has the odd start up prob weather a bigger say castle edge or ice 80HV would make a difference not sure anyone know?

So I would guess 520mm blades are the way to with this motor from an electronics battery standpoint. I dont know about the performance standpoint.

I'd at least try using 550mm blades as it really is worth it my last 550 I used edge 553mm blades also my mate uses them too on his

It really is a nice heli using the bigger blades

Yes you might loose a little flight time prob 30 sec ish but well worth it
Just my thoughts mind

Interesting with the edge blades. Are these blades abit more narrow than other brands this size? Reason I ask is I own an old Miniature Aircraft gasser and was recommended Edge blades because they were more narrow and thus easier to turn.

Just as a side note: what headspeed are you running with the different blades and with what pinion?

I am totally disappointed that I got 520mm blades in supposedly a top of the line kit. So disappointed I really thought about sending it back.

So...just ...FYI.

Have you tried them yet / they don't fly well? You must have gotten the combo without their flybarless unit. Complete combo comes with 550's I believe.

Hi all. Allz I know is I bought the "older" combo kit with 520's, 1220KV motor, and Talon 90 last January or so from Andy at Aero Hobbies, and it flies terrific, does not get hot, is just about my favorite heli, and I have over 100 flights with it. I have no desire to try 550's on it, although that's only because I'm very happy with the flying the way it is.
