I need some advice and setup for The Ace GT5.1 controller. I am helping a friend who is new to heli's. He has a Spectrum DX 8 transmitter. I am only familiar with futaba. He is using only one satellite receiver pugged into the GT5. Do you need two or will it work with only one? And could someone explain the radio setup. I have set the GT5 up previously. But it has only been using Futaba. Any help would be appreciated.

All you really need is to set up one servo swash, no trims in all flight modes for the radio, ATVs set 100, rudder ATV set to taste. I'm not sure about the single sat?
I have the GT-5.1 on my EXI 450 with an RX and Spektrum DX7. Works great!

If its fixed don't break it.

According to the ACE GT5.1 manual it seems to require two satellites. But they cannot guarantee full range, or rule out a loss of signal using satellites. Says use at own risk with the use of satellites. I know people who never could get the gt5.1 to work right with satellites. Only when using a standard rx, with a Spectrum, or Futaba.

Your right it does say that in the manual RCHF, I forgot about that. I had set up my first GT 5 with a receiver so I could have fail safe. The original didn't have fail safe without an RX.

When the gyro went bad it was cheaper just to keep the RX and plug the 5.1 in its place.

Hey cooling fan whatever you do don't edit any of the X Y Z parameters in the tool menu. I wrote them down on my last one and just my luck the guy I bought it from had edited them and never even got to use it. So I had to recalibrate it first thing.

Its so easy to do if you go snooping around in the tools menu. I did it with my first one. Talk about a major PITA to get recalibrated.

I don't know what your friend is using it on but its a good idea to use someones settings who have it really dialed in. Sometimes you can find settings like that at TT.com

Another problem is you have no way of knowing what the default settings are on the GT 5 Gyros once you change settings a bit and start tweaking. But they are in the TT heli manuals.

These Stock Mini Titan 325 settings starting on page 6 in the MT 325 manual helped me a tremendous amount when I couldn't get the wobble out of the head at high head speeds.

I have the EXI 450 and put these settings from TT on mine and changed some other stuff back to default settings and problem solved. The manual shows default settings and TT's tweaked settings. You can also get setups from other size helis as well.

I have the GT 5 on my Trex 500 and Trex 550. And they both fly great. I just don't understand the settings on Spectrum. Like the gyro settings in his radio on set to disable. I talked to him the other day and he says he has it where it will hover. But is now drifting to the left. Something is definitely not right. One thing for sure the setup process it not quite as user friendly as the setting up of a beastx. I just installed one on my Mini Titan V1. I spent 4 hrs. Sunday flying it after I got it setup. It was never that much fun to fly before, but now it is awesome.

I have a spare GT 5 I installed on my mini titan and couldn't get it to fly right either. The weird part is I had this controller setup on TT X50 nitro and it was ok. I did try and recalibrate the XYZ in tool menu. It was kinda confusing at first. But not really that hard after you think about how it works. I never reinstalled it on the mini Titan after I did that though. It flies so well using the Beastx. I am not going to mess with it.

Hey if its drifting I bet he needs to boot it up and watch the tail and see if he has some right rudder tuned into the tail. There's no rate mode on these gyros which makes it kind of difficult to trim the tail and 90 the rudder servo. I have plugged mine into the RX a minute because the rudder servo naturally centers and set about 7 to 8 degrees of right rudder on the tail on my 450 larger helis don't seem to need so much.

Or however he's getting his rudder servo centered, he can just keep the heli unbooted and work off the already centered rudder servo.

Also In my DX 7 I had to go far as I could go negative to get to the black background gyro gain numbers on the GT 5 to read 100

If its fixed don't break it.
