Picked up a used Diabolo off of here and can't wait to get all the parts together. I'm going to stretch it to an 800 and eventually get the Triabolo head to make an 800 Tri. Right now I have a kosmik 200 ESC and Outrage HV servos for it. I think I have settled on the new Pyro 800-40 for a motor but I'm still looking. Looking to run this on 6,12, and 14s.

I can't wait. I was asking a few months ago how these could be higher quality than a Goblin, and now I see how. The Goblin is nice, but this thing amazing.

I agree.. but I think comparing the two is a little unfair anyway. The Diabolo is obviously built to work. Its built like a tractor.. its not heavy at all, but it is definitely more robust. The Goblin is pure play and will never be used to lift heavy camera equipment, so they are completely different in that aspect. The Goblin is built to run retarded head speeds for a 700 and be a 3d beast. They are both amazing birds in their own right.

Here she is.. All put together.. Well.. Airframe is.. Still need to mount servo's,vbar, motor,ESC.. Pretty much everything. I want to fly her as a 700 for a little while before I go all beast mode on it and make it an 800 triple.

It's going to come close, but not one major component is new.. So far I have gotten really good deals on slightly used equipment and that has saved me about 1,500.. I'll do a write up this afternoon with cost comparison.

3 Outrage Torq 9180's: $389 I paid: $260 shipped
1 Outrage Torq 9188 : $144 I paid: $0 - traded
Mikado Vbar Silverline: $299 I paid: $250 shipped
Pro software for Vbar: $47 I paid: $0 (came with vbar)
Misc parts from Peak : I paid: $131
Kontronik Progdisc: $127 I paid: $100
Rail 716mm mains: $121 I paid: $0 came with heli
Rail 116mm tails: $35 I paid: $0 came with heli
Kontronik Pyro 700-45: $379.00 I paid: $160 shipped

Totals: $3499 +shipping I paid: $2326 to my house

I am not adding in the small things like the pins and connectors I am going to use to shorten the servo leads..or wiring for the ESC.. this is what I have invested so far for a badass heli. Good deals can be found and nice Heli's can be built on a budget with parts purchased over time. No need to invest all that money at once.. I pieced this together so far. It has taken me 4 months to get it all together. I already have batteries for it since I have a Goblin 700. The priciest thing that will happen to this bird is the Triabolo and 800+ conversion that will happen in the spring, but it will be like having a whole different aircraft.

Got the Vbar in today and made a mount for it out of an old Goblin 700 aluminum skid mount... now it looks good and I can get to all the cables and put the USB cable in. I'm still waiting on my pin kit to shorten the servo leads and clean up all the wiring though.

Spent tonight drinking lime-a-rita's and crimping pins. Got all my servo leads and the ESC lead made.. waiting on the wire wrap to tie strap everything down. I got my Progdisc in for the ESC and it doesn't recognize the ESC. I am going to download updates for them both.. after I download a program to run PC stuff on my mac. Why can't everything be compatible with mac!! lol.
I digress.. maybe tomorrow I'll have time to try again with programming the ESC, but it is my fly day. Batteries are charged and ready to go! Taking the Goblin out to have some fun!

Congrats on the Diabolo, you'r gonna love that heli.

Good luck dealing with the Progdisk. They are not intuitive.

Craig, what kind of crimper did you get, are you happy with?

I'm thinking of getting one to clean up the TDR I'm getting ready to build.

Needle nose pliers... And some patience. I did order some off ebay but they are coming from china and I didn't feel like waiting. The pins are easy to curl once you get the hang of it.

Cool, Thanks!

Maybe I'll just order some connectors and give it a try with the needle nose.

Another cool trick is to tin the wire ends with solder. Once you crimp the wire end down in the pin use the solder gun to heat the solder again and it will stick to the pin.. Double protection and connection insurance.
