Hi guys!

I'm new to the demon and trying to figure out my first unit on a 450x.

Im trying to install the unit on a stock blade 450x with the ESC set to 6V and step down diode on the tail.

I have the cable recognized on the software. I'm attaching the USB connection on the unit at the port furthest away from the LED light. I have a dsmx sat connected at the USB side. I have the esc/throttle connection two ports down from where I have the USB connection. I have 3sx selected as the unit type on the software.

When connecting the unit all I see in the software is "no connection". Plugging the battery in I get a flashing green light on the LED but still "no connection"on the software.

Any ideas?

Emailed the mfg and distributer, waiting on an answer but hoped maybe someone here cab help out faster, as my retailer referred me here.

Thank you for any help guys!

A quick check would be to see if the USB connection into the HC is the right way up.

The black wire location should be the same as for all the other connections, eg the throttle lead.

The 3sx should be powered up before connecting to the software via usb. Preferably with your esc's power supply if this is what you will be using. An external supply works ok too.

Make sure the polarity of all your connectors, incl usb are correct (black/neg to outside).

Also sometimes helps to just disconnect the usb/pc cable after the software starts up to try the connection again. I sometimes need to do this.

Cheers,
TomC

Thank you both for helping out!

Polarity looks fine. The stock ESC connection on the 450x doesn't have a black wire, but the darkest wire is facing outside, and is in the sane direction as it was on the ar7200bx and facing the same way all the servo wires need to face to have black on the outside. I'm afraid to try it backwards as it seems managed not to fry the unit so far and unless someone tells me the 3sx doesn't care if the power is reversed I'd hate to just try it and see.

I tried taking the cable out after the program started, powering the device (with ESC connection and plugging the batt to ESC) before and after connection and various iterations of those. No luck.

Any other ideas?

An off the wall suggestion:

Is your USB connected to the computer via a hub? If so, try a direct connection. If you already have a direct connection, try a different USB port on your computer. Or try a different computer. It is possible that the USB dongle is not working.

FWIW, DEMONjoe (on the other forum) posted last month that you can put anything in backwards, and it wont hurt the unit. If you want to confirm, you can check for his posts on helifreak from 10/17/13.

No hub, tried both USB ports.

I'll look for that post and may try to reverse the power port, but it seems like I have it in proper from everything I can tell including an HF thread about using the unit on a stock 450x down to the wire colors. Tried the USB connection reversed and no joy. Think tomorrow I'll just start moving connections around and reversing them and see. If that doesn't work I'll try and borrow a friend PC. After that I guess it's warrenty time :-( hope it won't take long, hate being down. Part of the hobby I guess. I hear excellent things about the quality of the units and customer support, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Thank you all! Any other ideas are of course welcome!

Once you have the USB cable recognized, you can power up the unit with a separate battery on any of the open ports to start with. Servos need not to be connected.

In the 1st page ALL tab, if you have the wrong unit selected you will get no connection. Make sure that you have selected the 3SX

Later you WILL bind the sattelite on the unit to the radio.

Then, you will select the type of servos you have, and then plug then in safely

Just in case, check this old video, and the ones that follow:

Watch at YouTube

most steps still apply to the Bavarian Demon software

I'll be standing by every evening if you need further help

Like I said earlier, the correct unit 3sx is selected in the drop down menu. Everything is hooked up per instructions/video.

Thank you for joining the discussion :-)

What do you think I should do next? Get a new cable? A new unit? Who should I contact in the US for replacements?

Thank you!

That means the unit is working and reading the radio signal.

And yet, not talking to the software
I wonder if the computer is talking throught the USB cable with the proper driver.

Aside from going to the windows device manager and resintalling the cable's USB driver, dont know what to advice.

Let me get a hold of Danny (F1 Rocket) and see what he says.

is something obvious OR a bad cable, and I can't see the "obvious"

Sounds like he is trying to connect using a Mac. If this is the case I'm sorry but I cannot help you.

Ohh no, a Mac?

If that is the case, there is a work around using a virtual machine software, or any other windoze emulator, but Im not familiar with then 1st hand.

Yep, am using a VM windows on a mac, never had a problem before, and happy to say that now i still don't! That did it!

Reinstalled the driver and now it works! Ha, didn't think about that.

Didn't actually go through the setup but the unit is recognized and to make sure I tried to update the firmware and got a system already updated to 200 msg!

Very nice, and thank you everyone for helping! Tomorrow I'll go through the actual setup and take her out! Can't wait :-)

Thank you all!
