Starting working on the cockpit a little this weekend. Thanks again to Roy and Emile for the bulkhead partition. Painted the exhaust duct also. Used gloss black for the base coat then lightly misted the gold metallic until I got the desired look.

Rough fit of the cockpit interior done. Now just need collective, cyclic, seat belts, carpet, pedals, and few other extras. Can't find good scale replicas in this scale. Hopefully one of the 3D printer guys can produce some of the 1/4 scale JetRanger parts in smaller sizes before I get ready for final assembly.

Looking really good! Keep up the good work. You have to get one of Faye's IP's for this bird, it will really scale out the office.

Ya, they look great. I have the 700 size JetRanger IP, but it really don't look the part. May consider making one from scratch since the ones on the market all have to be modified anyway.

Just ordered a fire extiguisher from Faye. They look great if you havent seen them.

Hey Emile, how is your cockpit coming along ?

The new IP from Faye is specific to the 407. Yes I have seen the fire extinguishers, they look great!

Well, I was able to find a little time last weekend to do some work on my 407.
I stole some ideas from Stewart such as the exhaust which the way it's set up from the factory is too high. the full scale has a gap around the exhaust so I replicated that also.
I then marked and cut all the openings I could but still have some more details to go.
BTW, take your time as it is easy to cut out too much quickly as I found out on my nose vents easy fix as soon as I buy some smaller files.

One other thing I did was to cut the top of the doghouse to allow me to remove it without having to take off the rotor head. The cut is very similar to the full scale also from the pics I have. I will place some magnets on it to enable taking it off and putting it back on. I used a hot knife which gave me a very clean cut.

Hey Roy,
Good to see you back at it. I'm working with a 3d printer guy to see if he can fab some parts for the 407. I'll be sure to let you know how they turn out in case you are interested. I ordered a fire extinguisher from Faye and some doll house carpet for the cockpit. If gray works for your build let me know as I will have some extra I can send to you. I owe you one.

thanks Stewart!

funny you mention 3D printer.

I have been researching affordable 3D printers. I just don't have the money to buy a real quality printer

there is one for $299 that prints a little rough but for me at that price I don't care. I can sand down the rough edges LOL

yes, I'd be interested in some scale pieces for sure.
there are more people out there doing 3D parts now so it will get more affordable to buy them.

I'm going to the Perry Georgia Annual Hobby show tomorow and Saturday. this is the largest there is I think. Three LARGE buildings full of people selling stuff, used and new. I will see what I find then will do an order to Faye and RCA for some scale pieces to put on the 407.
I will let you know about the carpet when I get to the cockpit

Thanks!

Little more prep work on the cockpit. Got the flooring formed and ready for carpet. Added a little black Paint in the nose. After looking at Roy's Oil cooler opening and many more reference photos of the full scale I decided to make mine a little larger. If ya'll haven't seen Rich-(206)'s paint job on his 407 it looks really good. He did a fantastic job.
Rich, need some more photos.

Hi Stewart
I finished up the oil cooler by using a plasticcard sheet that has the ridges in it similar to the full scale. It will eventually get painted flat black.

I also installed the cargo door but the scale hinges I'm using tend to pull the door ajar so I have to figure out how to fix it so it will stay shut.

BTW I saw Rich's 407 pics and it looks really good!! Maybe he will paint mine LOL

your 407 is looking awesome!! Keep the pics coming!

If I'm looking at this pic correctly, the door is sitting on top of the fuse. So, if you put a thin styrene shim under the front of the hinge it will probably be less prone to popping open, because both sides of the hinge will be on the same plane.

BTW, the heli is really taking shape, looks good!

If you don't find that plastic card let me know and I'll shoot a piece your way.
My kit was missing the hinges so I put some Vario hinges on.

Barry you're the man! Now that suggestion makes sense and I will do that. I looked at it and you hit the nail on the head. Thanks!!
