Frankenhelis! Give me a plan and a pile of odd parts, and away I go!

I have a first generation E325 that has seen hundreds of flight since I first got it. Amazingly, I had E-flite S75 servos all the way around and a Futaba 401 gyro. Dead stable and reliable with my "old fart" flying style.

So while poking through my stash of parts, I find a Tarot FLB head that I bought for one of my Align 450 helis and never used, as well as one of those Spektrum combo receiver/FBL controller units.

Going over, the E325, it's still in great shape. So off comes the head, all the servos, and the 401 gyro. A trip to the LHS scores three Align 415 servos for the cyclic and a 420 for the tail. OK servos installed, lets start on linkages. Darn, those TT balls are small, and the swash has the anti-rotation pin in the front. Hmm, lets keep the small balls on the outer ring and see if I can fit Align balls on the inner ring. Wow, they fit and clear?. The Tarot head fits the TT mainshaft and lucky me, rides a whole bunch lower that the original FB head and the blades clear the tail rotor! So more diddle and fiddle, and before you know it, all mechanical and electronic setups are completed. No excuses, time to go fly! Hey, not bad! A twist here and there and the blades are in good track. A slight adjustment on the FLB unit and it is dead solid on both hover and in flight.

As of today, I'm up to 50 flights on this combo with every one of them resulting in a sh!t eating grin!

Time to see what else is hiding in the bottom of my spare parts drawer.

Finally some photos!

I finally took some photos for posting of my TT MT E325 Frankenheli! In my earlier post I mentioned that I used a Tarot head, but I found that head in my parts stash. So I'm guessing that it's an RJX head on this heli. Regardless, it flies great. Besides the head, I tried to show the hybrid swash plate that uses TT balls on the outer ring and Align balls on the inner ring. I've also shown the modified battery mounting platform. It's been a tight squeeze to get the TP2250mah lipo packs under the Canomod canopy. Using the stock battery platform parts, I modified them to duplicate the battery platform as used on the TT Super Cobra conversion kit. I don't fly aerobatics with this heli, so moving the battery away from the mast head has no noticeable affect on maneuverability at least within the range of my "old fart" flying style.
