The IRCHA scale event was some thing to see. The static round had two pilots from Switzerland and there english was fair but it was much better than my german. Then the real fun started during round one of the flying. The winds must have been 20 plus. Joel had a hard landing during his translational landing that he did not recover from. Richard had problems with his landing and broke one gear but finished the round. During Richards 2nd flight he did fair as well and had a rollover. The swiss team were flying 500ish helis and fought the wind hard. Round two of the flying was sat. morning at 9 wind was about 5 and the flying was on.
After the scores were input in the AMA super computer it left up to me to do the hardest part of my job all week and that was to tell the world during the sat. night awards ( I did have a little help from my red solo cup )
1st Roland Kaufmann (Switzerland)
2nd Marcel Germann (Switzerland)
3rd Emile Sheriff

I don't have any pics If there any out there please post them

That Alouette looks to be based on the old Wik body that Vario still sells. In which case he is likely running 600-650 size blades.

Great little(?) model!

Please help me understand "Normalized" points and WHY we feel we need this in IRCHA scale.

Thanks in advance.

First of all - thanks to all who have welcomed us so warmly!!
Roland and I had a few really great days at the IRCHA and the victory of the competition was the highlight of the event.

For correction, Roland flew the Alouette and I the Sea King.
Here's a pic with Roland on the left and me on the right:

Roland, Marcel, Emile:

Roland's Alouette is a swiss fuselage (very old) and no Vario. The head and a lot of other things where made by him from scratch.

Here are some other pics from the IRCHA:

And last but not least, some eye candys

We enjoyed it to have met some of you personally, and hope we'll meet again in 1 year.

Cheers Marcel

Marcel, it was a pleasure meeting and competing with you and Roland. its proof that when you do something just for the fun of it, the rewards can be outstanding. Such sportsmanship and great comradery has always been one of the biggest reasons why I enjoy this hobby and why I plan on taking it to the grave......and beyond
Thanks both to you and Roland for the little taste of Switzerland and I look forward to another ircha event where we can all do it again

IRCHA "International" Scale Event!!!

Marcel, thank you for helping us to keep everything correct...
It was a true pleasure to meet both you and Roland, and I look forward to seeing you both again next year.. You guys made the scale competition an "international" event!!!
I have to say CONGRATS to all that flew in the IRCHA Scale event.
Friday's weather was not at it's finest, by a LONG SHOT!!!!
The winds were very high, and these guys stepped up, and flew their round without complaint... I must say, that I thought it might take it's toll(but hopefully not!!!!), but these guys did not let it beat them.. and they flew right through it, just fine.. all are to be commended for their flying ability, and sportsmanship..
Saturday brought us a beautiful day, with a light breeze and everyone stepped up again.. Being one of the judges, I have to say, I saw and learned a few things watching these guys fly the event that just might help me with my own flight routine for next year!!!
Thanks to all that participated, and congrats go out to all of you..

Michael, you raise a good question, and I am sure that someone will get an answer to you, but I can't but would also like to know!!!

Marcel, Roland, and Emile, Great job!! I wish I hadn't had so much "maintenance" to do.. I would have loved to mix it up with you guys!!!
And to all the contestants in scale, I know what it takes to stand up there in front of all!! Add in "Extreme" conditions? Well, simply well done, doesn't cover it....

Thanks guys!!

OH, and Thanks Sidney... Why yes I DO look good there eh?

Marcel, Roland,

It was great meeting you in person. And congratulations on your performance in the scale competition. It was really a treat to watch each of you fly.

Darrell,

Thanks for coordinating the event and making it all happen. It was a lot of fun, as always. Even if I did wound my A109 in the competition and destroy my Schweizer 300c later. Ouch.

Butch,

I took some video, some from my phone and some from my GoPro H3 using my hexacopter. I have to edit all that footage to see what's worth posting. Then I'll get something up here.

I'm on the road for the next 8 days so I'll work on this when I return.

Stan, Paul, Tom,

Thanks for judging. We all appreciate that you volunteered to help us.

Joel

Congrats to all of the winners and contestants. It sounds like it was a great event, which makes me envious that I could not make the trip this year. I plan to make the trip with Dr. Tim next year.

You are going to IRCHA with Dr Tim? Brave man. I strongly recommend a pair of ear defenders at least, if not some noise cancelling head phones cos Tim wont stop talking all the way there and back

UH-OH... He can't possibly talk more than my wife??? When I go on road trips with her, I put my hearing aids on "wife mode" and it all becomes muffled grey noise...
