Heli flying requires a two person team by the rules.

There were no other flyers or spotters around.

I was addressing the comment about flying to close to the other pilots...There were none...

That's crazy! It appears to me that he lost control after the tail hit the dirt, or at the very least was not fully in control. I would say he was in exactly the right spot.. A few feet one way or the other and the outcome could have been way different. As someone already noted, the blades caught him fully across the back, I wouldn't want to know what the outcome would have been had the tips caught him. Thank God he is ok! What a trooper too.. Back out flying the same day!

There ya go to all you morons who like to fly close to yourself and others. Just a matter of time especially with all the show offs at IRCHA.

Not sure if it's true because I wasn't there, but several people are on FB saying he didn't come away unscathed.. AMA sent him to the hospital

Throttle hold did save his life though.. No doubt. And definitely flying to close

Well...there is no such thing as an AMA sanctioned field.

But if there were...it would be that one seeing as how it's owned by the AMA and is at their headquarters.lol...

Light bulb! Hahahaha...
As for him going to the hospital, hopefully it was just as a precaution. As noted by others.. He may have internal injuries that became more apparent when the adrenaline wore off.

He Is OK

He and his family are friends, and I met up with him later the same day and he was still still shook up a bit, and he is fully aware of how lucky he was. He told me he was definetly going to reconsider his close in flying.. but the bottom line is he is doing OK.
