What headspeed are you guys running on your 550 with 550mm blades?

What pinion are you running to get that headspeed?

I was running a 17T pinion with a Castle 100 Esc and getting a headspeed of 2560.

I swapped out to a Kontronik Jive 100 and I am getting a headspeed of only 2300 with my Turnigy battery, and 2520 with my Thor battery.

I just checked online, and a 17T pinion is the largest straight-cut pinion I see for the 550!

Do I need to go to the 18T slanted pinion and get a slanted cut main gear???

Saturday morning I flew my helicopter in my pajamas
How it got in my pajamas I'll never know

If its the stock motor you should be able to get plenty of HS with the 17T pinion, 2400rpm should be plenty on 550 blades.

What throttle % are you running on the Jive?

If you want the same HS between different packs you need to run mode 11 instead of mode 4. Once you have programmed mode 11 you need to spool up on the ground in IU2 at 0 pitch with your weakest pack, the Jive will then remember this rpm.

If you are needing to raise the throttle curve above 85% to get your desired rpm you need a bigger pinion like this: http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/pro...oducts_id=14167 please check if its 5mm or 6mm shaft (I can't remember), revco do both anyway upto 19T I think.

60% of the time, it works every time!

I have bought an Align 550 DFC combo but hasn't arrived yet. I see it comes with an 11 tooth pinion. What kind of head speeds can I get out of this thing with the 11T pinion and stock 520mm blades? I have heard that 2400 to 2500 rpms on the head is the sweet spot ,,,is that possible with the 11T pinion??
thx

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

The new stock 550 DFC will top out about 2650 rpm ungoverned at 100% throttle. Personally this is how I would run it or govern to 2500 and ignore the warning in the CC software.

Thanks for the reply. My plan was to run it without gov. Maybe start with a 85% curve going to 95% at the ends. Would this be a good place to start in stunt mode?
What curves have you used?

Yes that would work fine, you could also add say 10% cyclic to throttle mixing, this gives a very governor like feel but with slight over speeding.

Thanks for the info,,,I guess I have abit to learn as the 550 DFC comes with an 11 tooth pinion. So I would guess the gear ratio's between the DFC and older 550's are very different. I have read the tail gear ratios are also different too.
