A few weeks ago I replaced my pb flight box battery with a 4 cell 2200mah lipo. I then forgot I had done so and plugged in my 12 volt pb trickle charger at about 5pm. At about 4am I was awakened by my fire alarms. The entry room the flight box was in was full of smoke and the rest of my downstairs was partly smokey.Smelled like a strange burning plastic. The only damage was mostly to the flight box.Melted power pannel and melted the bottom of the aluminum box the lipo was in.Also a few burn spots on the floor about the size of a pencil.
Had it not been for my smoke alarms, this would have went a lot worse.

Glad to hear it wasn't any worse!

Maybe a label on the charge port would help saying .....LIPO....!

Glad to see that you're o.k. I had a fire once on Thanksgiving day and I know the panic that comes along with it. I don't like having to watch the charger but we have no choice....

After I fixed my flighbox.I did replace the battery with another Lipo and made a label to remind myself what battery I have inside.

You sure got lucky!

Since you really should balance charge the lipo, why have it connected to the external charge connector at all? Eliminate the possibility.

I think it is better to keep lipos in the open.

May this be a wakeup call. Place a smoke detector in the area where you charge. I had a friend who died in a house fire about 8 months ago. He was home alone and started cooking and fell asleep. He would have lived if he had smoke detectors.

Really sorry to hear about this. Every house should have a fire extinguisher. Had a LIPO fire for a different reason but it was the fire extinguisher that saved my house. I am happy to hear you caught it.

if at first you dont succeed, destroy any evidence of having tried in the first place ...

Same here. Extinguisher saved my house Christmas eve. 911 would have not been fast enough.

Charge outside now exclusively.
