Hey Guys when I switch from normal mode to idle up 1, the governor starts to surge really bad . It will go from almost idle up to top rpm and back down. Did everything according to Ikon and can not get rid of the problem . Any ideas?
Oh yes, it is a Radikal G20 with stock gas engine and a DX7.

I don't know much about the IKON but does it have a way, and if so are you sure that the lower/upper limits are set correctly?

are you sure the sensor is being read correctly? It may have a "fail safe" mode of some sort

Yes all my end points are low 0% and high 100%.
The sensor is just regular mag sensor. When I connect the Ikon with the Heli it will show rpm at the Ikon display.

I'm assuming the Gear Ratio and Sensing Divider values are set correctly?

what sort of gain do you have set on the gov?

what do your throttle curves look like? If I read the directions correctly even your normal curve would look very different than it would normally be setup

what values do you have in the 3 speed settings?

sorry for all the questions, I'm just poking around

Gear ratio 6.428
Gain 25% at Ikon screen.
Normal throttle curve almost linear. (Malorie's setup)
Idle 1 60% flat throttle curve.
Idle 2 100% flat throttle curve.

Why are you running a flat throttle ? Sounds like the governor is bouncing off the limit.

so unless there is an on/off switch, If I interpret the manual correctly your "normal" curve will cause the Ikon to switch between all 3 speed modes as you increase it because its basing the speed settings off the throttle position. So it would switch between off and your 100% setting as you move the collective in normal mode.......again unless there is an on/off mechanism that isn't listed in the manual

if this is correct then your normal curve would go from zero to 30% and then flat line

Yes, I have three banks
First bank normal linear curve no gov
Sec bank Idle up 1 60% gov on
Third bank Idle up 2 100% gov on
Hope this makes sense...

so does it have the same behavior in Idle up 1 and 2 or just in normal mode?

My point is it appears that the Ikon is just reading your throttle curve position..............it doesnt' care about banks or modes

if it sees the throttle position go above 25% it enables speed setting 1
if it sees the throttle position go above 50% it enables speed setting 2
if it sees the throttle position go above 75% it enables speed setting 3

so unless your "linear" normal curve doesn't go higher than 49% of the total throw, you're at least enabling Speed setting 2. If it goes above 75% its enabling setting 3

so in normal mode, as you increase the collective/throttle you could be causing the governor to switch between off and speed settings 1 and 2 and maybe 3

Well according to Ikon, to enable the gov you have to turn it on at the bank setup.

oh okay so there IS an on/off function, sounds like its inherent in the "setups"

so how do you switch between "setups" in the IKON?

the written manual isn't very clear about how that works and I don't have one to test

don't think I'll be able to help maybe somebody else can

typically when I've seen problems as you describe its been because:
a) the high/low point is wrong
b) its not in speed settings that are thought
c) the sensor isn't working correctly
d) some sort of "fail safe" gets enabled

hopefully somebody else can weigh in.

I found the problem. The sensor would cut out about every 10sec. I have no idea which sensor is on there but which one would you guys recommend for a Zenoah 20 with one magnet and two empty holes on the aluminum fan(guessing those are for different timing).

the stator gator ties into the ignition sensor. it even has the zenoah connector so u dont have to spice into any wires. thing is i don't know if it works with the ikon

Ikon with satellites. I think I could splice the signal of the igntion pick up.
The Ikon supplyes its on power on the rpm sensor input.
