I was having compression issues the last few trips out to the field. well, this past weekend I noticed I had hardly any power. I tried leaning it out a few clicks, fly it, and check back plate. It felt good. so, I took it back up and heard vibrating sound. Thought it was the muffler trying to fall off. I was heading to land, engine died. I autod fairly nicely Removed glow plug and filament is gone. Piston is ruined, sleeve is slightly scratched, and there is a crack where the head of the muffler bolt is. The crank and bearings are still in excellent shape. Should I rebuild or get different engine? Thanks

I think the cost of rebuilding would be close to the price of a new one. Get one from one of the vendors the 10 or 15% off.
If you decide to buy a new one the next time you need parts you have a spare on hand.

Depends on how many parts you need to rebuild, and the cost of those parts. Also one thing to consider is, were you happy with the power output of the .50 when it was in proper working order? If not, it may be worth while just to buy a new engine.

Check out some of the newer, larger bore engines for the 600 class machines, like the Y.S. 56, Y.S. 60, or even the O.S. 55. They make quite a bit more power. They can be pretty pricey, and you may have to get a newer pipe as well, if you want full power out of them.

Hope this helps you out a little.

Cracked jug+scratched sleeve+ruined piston=new engine.

That little engine was HOT and likely ruined the bearings too.

Your repairs will be more than a new engine price...More than likely.

What heli is it in?

I literally never use the word literally right.

I asked because he has a 30 that would scream with a 50 in it.

His Rappy 50 has a Redline 53 in it according to his profile.

Like I said..I asked because I want to know and don't

Rebuilding it would be fine if it didn't need a whole new engine block. Scrap it and get a new one.

You should be able to pick one up used for a good price. Everyone has moved to the 56 or 60s. I'd just find a nice 56.
