You know, I thought those grip pads were a BAD idea when I saw them. I've opened mine to adjust three times now and no problems at all. I'm pretty surprised but they actually work quite well.

It's nice how the rubber locks in place with or with out sticky tape
at least you don't need to take off the cover

I always open up a new radio to check for "general condition and security". Make sure all the connectors are fully seated. Horizon/Spektrum had a problem with that on early DX8s. Also, I like to make sure all the wire harnesses are bundled up nice and neat with no chafing or rubbing anywhere around the gimbals. I like to look at the overall design and make sure there are no sloppy solder joints, solder blobs rolling around, etc.

Yeah, exactly. I was really surprised how well it actually worked out. There's not too many things I'm wrong on with my first impression but this was one of them. I like the simplicity of it in the end.

I really like how this radio is built compared to my old dx7.
The rubber does add a nice feel and I hope it holds up to my oily nitro hands though I do try and keep em clean.

A certain so-called, self-appointed "guru" on RCG said we wouldn't have to RIP the grips off to adjust gimbal tension. So "nice" to see he was wrong and the DX9 uses the same cheap sticky tape setup as the DX8.

Nope, sorry. Don't want a touch screen on my TX. Oh, by the way, this thread is about the DX9, in case you missed that little tidbit at the beginning...and all throughout...

Why you so negative, brah? Even though you started this thread, you need to bow out if you hate Spektrum so much you have to mention a radio that has virtually zero following in the states and probably just about as much customer service. Ditto on having multiple Spektrum RXs, AR7200BXs, telemetry gear, etc. Never had a problem with their gear, so no reason to change.

Maybe just mark the hole locations on the back of the DX8 grips, and cut a small access hole. And make a couple plugs for those. Like the other two in the middle.

Anyone know where the DX9 is made? Spektrum has different tiers of manufacturing locations. Everything up to the DX8 (including the DX8) in China. The DX18 is made in Malaysia and the DX18QQ is made in Taiwan. The DX9 appears to be a bastard child of all three. Based on the DX8 case and appearance, it's probably China. It's the cheapest solution for them anyway so, given their history, that makes the most sense.

"I always open up a new radio ..."

I do the same thing. I don't always like what I see! The good (or at least expensive) radios are not made in the same place as the cheap radios. Some brands of cheap are better than other brands of expensive.

Exactly. The "guru-tard" over another popular forum right now is trying to explain (and failing) why that's not the case. Like Spektrum is any different from ANY other radio manufacturer.
