The Uber High Tech European Rail system has had {4 } catastrophic disasters, IN ONE WEEK . Train's with Computer -real time - Brain's.

Super safe -= super efficient. On time by minutes

What has gone wrong : They have multiple redundant safety backups.

OK....to play the "devils advocate".......some would say that the most infamous incident of the week.....the high speed train wreck in Spain........would NOT have happened if automation were in control versus the "on the phone looking at paperwork while taking a corner 45mph faster than speed limit" train engineer......

50 years ago we had airplanes falling out of the skies and trains crashing on a semi-regular basis. Automation and technology have made this an extremely rare occurrence.

Now, it can have it's drawbacks.........I believe it will be found that the primary reason that the 777 crashed in SFO.......was the over-reliance on automated systems. There has been grumbling that many of the Korean pilots rely on the automated systems too much.....and do not learn to "fly the airplane". This is great when everything works right.....but you have to have the experience when the impossible goes wrong.

Now, I know you say I just contradicted myself......but I truly believe that technology and automation is making travel in this world much safer than it has been......just my opinion....

I think people rely too much on automation. The human factor of decision making when systems fail is what saves lives. Sully Sullenberger.

Same applies to learning math comprehensively. You leave the calculator in the bag while you establish the fundamentals.

Korean Air had come a long way since the 80's and 90's to turn around their dismal crash record which was causing an airport ban in several countries around the world before they made steps to retrain their pilots to "fly the plane".

Just again to play the " Advocate " mainly because American's have such terribly poor recall skill's or memory skill. Literally taught out of them.

How many serious rail accident's have {we} had ??? and where have they occurred ?? What has been on -board - one very bad just recently.

Our rail system is based mainly around heavy haul : from road bed / rail to communication's and tracking. Even the Engines and car's are complete different.

The European Industry is very much different : Almost NASA Quality -
Too MANY ulta robust and redundant safety system built in. Real time Computer Control. Many trains can be on the same rail at once.

Then get off the train thought :{ "Tin Hat ON " } What Else has been happening inside the Industrial Infrastructure ? How many ???

I would not like to be in a Eurofighter if the electronics went haywire, having said that there is no doubt technology has had many advantanges for all of us and long may it be so,it is just nice to have confidence in a human controlled back up sometimes as in the Korean incident,"seat of the pants" stuff

Did the pilot just graduate from the 911 flight school and Mosque?
