They work OK Bill. I have set several of them up with success. Not hard to set up. If you get one start out with the tail gain at about 45.I use end points for this adjustment. The gain is controlled by AUX 2. Chuck

I guess my real question is: Why can you buy a brand new in the box for $60-$75.?

Probably because the folks selling them are too stubborn to give them a try...they usually want to "follow the leader" and wind up paying several hundred for a fbl unit.

I bought a couple of 3G units here on RR really cheap a couple of yrs ago and converted two helis to fbl. I didn't want to spend a lot of $ in case it didn't work out...... but, it worked out and the 3g's have been flawless for me..... I don't see a need to change anything at the moment....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

I have had many 3GX units.. Many have out right failed causing crashes and damage to the helicopter. The ones that do work do not fly as well as the other units like VBar, AR7200BX or the MsHeli Brain. If I were you..save your money.. Buy one of the other units.

I currently have 7 installed -- two 250s, a 500, 550, 600N, 700N, and a Gaui NX4.

I have a couple more waiting for installation in a second 600N and perhaps a 450.

They are easy to install and easy to set up. Of the 9, I have purchased 7 from the RR classifieds for $60 - $75. NIB and used. Supply them with adequate power and if you use Spektrum satellites make sure the cables are well supported and plugged in properly. The V3.1 software is pretty good.

The seven that are installed have all worked and continue to work without a hint of trouble.

Most are wired up to external Spektrum receivers, the one in the NX4 is using two Spektrum satellites for its receiver.

The 8th works fine on the bench and will be installed when I spring for the next set of FBL head parts for my second 600N, the 9th should be here any day now. It's either going into a 450 that will be converted to a DFC head, or into an HK600GT that has an Ornge 9 channel RX and satellites installed.

I have 2. 1 is on a stretched 450 running a 4s setup. It flies great. I had another on my vibe 50. I just swapped it for a AR7200, so far I am not impressed with the beast. It does not fly that much better than a 3gx properly setup. But it is a little better. For the money. Just buy a new Robird G31. We have been testing them on all heli sizes, electric, and nitro. A Robird USA team pilot flies at my field. Imo the Robird properly setup flies better than the beast hands down. Plus it has a built in govoner.

The 3GX has an integrated governor and it is working well on my NX4.

Yes it does. But it is reactive only. The robird uses a rpm sensor in conjunction with your pitch inputs.

Note that beginning with Version 3.1 software, whether the governor is used or not, the user is required to go through the governor/throttle calibration procedure AND part of that also requires that you have your pitch curve set up as a linear negative full pitch to positive full pitch setting. This tells me that the 3GX software is factoring in pitch along with RPM.
