I'd say it's IRCHA. People have already bought what they want for IRCHA. Next we'll see another wave of sales after folks get back from IRCHA and need to unload items replaced with goodies bought at IRCHA.

There seems to be at least two times a year when it's bad to be a seller... During IRCHA and in the fall when folks (who do) start packing it in for the winter.

Add on top of that the federal government sequestration. I'm sure we have plenty of members on here impacted by it whether directly or indirectly. I'm definitely effected indirectly.

When you buy something new these days you better like it....or know you are going to take a bath when you try to resell it. I think some of the depressed pricing has to do with the speed of the changes in the hobby right now.

you hit that on the nose...
not only has it kept me from buying items I want/need, but it stopped me from going to IRCHA this year

Amen to that. Even buying used and trying to resell later you still take a bath.

Well you know what they say. If you want to make a fortune in aviation, you got to start with a big one and know when to stop .

Selling used has always been such a bad prospect for me financially that I"ve only ever done so when I just simply needed the room and wanted to get the old equipment out of there. Otherwise, I just pack rat what I have or in extreme cases just give it away.

I've never seen any such thing as a "great market" for anyone, buyer or seller, in all the years I've been involved in aviation. Full scale is the worst, but r/c has never been anything I"d ever call "healthy".
On the buy side is about the only place I've seen decent deals.

So best to not expect much and sell accordingly. I'm even going to keep my electrics for the time being as I move the fleet back to fuel machines. Unless I can find a buyer locally, but otherwise I usually keep my old stuff until the bitter end.

For me, I can definitely say it is IRCHA!

I will go through the classifieds, see something, and then ask myself
why am I even looking...........am going to the biggest, nicest new/used
swapmeet of the year

But yes, after 'the event', look for some nice deals, many from people
that won some of the Sat. night prizes.

I'd bet there will also be a flood of buying after IRCHA when all that money that was saved waiting for a deal that didn't happen is burning a hole in people's pockets

It is the 20% pay cut all DoD Civil Service employees are taking right now. It is the cancellation or reduction of funding for programs. It is impacting DoD contractors, too. Some of my support contractor friends have also taken a 20% pay cut.

It's not just DoD, but I'm not sure on the details for other sectors of government.

Yes tell me about it. I have been trying to sell all of my heli equipment and two RTF's helis.A like new TT. Titan X-50 with top of the line electronics and a JS Frenzy 50 Plus all my tools setup equipment JR x9303 radio for a grand, which is down right cheap and still no one wants to pay that price. Dam near every one wants more for less. One offer had a guy that said if I really needed the money he would give me five hundred for it. I told him I would spend two dollars on 1/2 gal gas and burn it all. I am usually the one buying, but now the economy really sucks the big one right now.

I just picked up three stellar deals from guys posting up that they needed Ircha money. One, a brand new Yep HV160 with heat sink for half price. It came in the original box with the original invoice still in it. And a new pristine NextD Scorp ultimate. Again for just over half price. Then I got emailed from another friend who was offloading his 6 flight old Sk720 Black and Gps. I saved almost 300 just on this! He pmd me on his way to Ircha this morning!

And the helis I have seen for sale? OMG! Diabolo with almost 3k in it for $1700. The ad said he needed money for Ircha. TDR for just about the same. Crazy stuff going on. I was thinking of selling off my prototype 420mm stretched Warp. Loaded with ceramics and high end one off parts. The factory is now producing parts in their kits that I designed on this heli. But after seeing how low the resale prices are? I decided to let it gather some dust.

The downside? I just sold off a bunch of my own new stuff for just over half price. I rarely ever sell anything, but had to help pay for some of the great stuff I nailed above on a new project.
It just is what it is. The only real people still making money here are the retailers.

It's kinda stupid the decreased value of what's literally new in RC sometimes. If RC stuff only held value like gun stuff..... Only if...

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

When I started flying helis 10 yrs ago, I could sell well kept gear for about 75% of new. Sold numerous helis in the first few years at about that price point. Today... Good luck.

That's not a 500X.
