Any other military members out there deploying with their helo's? I went crazy and bought a 550x off of here.. And now it's here with me... Along with a 130x and an mcpx.. Everybody loves to watch them fly almost as much as I love to fly them

I thought about it but decided not to. With the sensitivities to certain issues, I did not think it was a good idea.

After getting there and asking around, I would not have been able to fly anyways. For the six months at my FOB, I didn't see any RC flying. I did see a plane flying at another FOB I visited but later found out that was the only flight he was allowed to make...

Obviously others on here take them with them and are able to use them; everywhere's different. It would have been a nice stress relief.

I almost took my 450 out to sea with me but decided against it for the shear fact of the SPY radar on the ships. It is known to fry our electronics in the H-60's so didn't want to take a chance on my equipment and lose it in the drink. Simulator is all I take now. If I was sceduled to go somewhere on land though, I would probably take one.

I'm in the Air Force.. Nobody seems to mind.. But we are a helicopter unit and we all love helicopters.. Even our commander asks me when the next time I am going to fly is. I try to keep them low though.. The smaller ones aren't such a hassle, but the 550 could cause some havoc.. So I wait until night time and fly by "light all's" keeping a low profile. I would definitely be scared on a ship... Zero chance of repairing something that goes in the water

Took a gasser to Bosnia in 1999. Electrics were not that great back then. The look on the Motor Sergeant face when I asked for a gallon of mogas was great.

Thought about taking it again to Iraq in 2003 but Turkey started making every unit going there prepare an itemized packing list for everything inside the containers. So I decided not to take it. We ended up going thru Kuwait. There was a race track at Balad, a few cars in Mosul, where I was. A bunch of people met at an empty field in Kuwait and flew helicopters. There was a hobby shop in Kuwait where you could buy glow fuel.

Just be careful with the frequency jammers. A friend of mine got a 450 shipped to him, and he shipped it to me for repairs after a jammer came thru the gate with the jamming equipment still powered on.

I remember the track at Balad.. By the USO.. I thought Balad was my second home for awhile. I was with the helo's so i was on the other side of the ramp. used to fly my SR between us and the Navy birds. i try to stay away from aircraft because that SR had a servo let go while i was going full speed across the flightline one time.. the wreck was amazing. blades and pieces of everything everywhere. i would have been mad had it not been so epic. Turkey was awesome, but I wasn't into RC then.. I do miss northern watch.

As far as jammers, I haven't had the displeasure of dealing with them yet.. We have some ground guys around our compound, but nothing close enough to effect me that I know of.. I'll cross my fingers and see it as an opportunity to upgrade if it happens ..

I didn't bring a heli with me to Afghanistan, but I'm going to Kosovo soon and I intend to bring an mCPx and build a Warp 360 there. In Afghanistan I figured that multi-spectrum jammers such as Warlock and Duke would just shoot me down, but they won't be used in Europe.

+1 to the warlocks shooting them down, I just took my sim with me. Was good enough to curb the itch for 15 months .

Im in ghazni and have a synergy e5 on order. Another guy out here flies planes and has no problems with interference. Should be fun. Ghazni is also a Polish run base and they are much more lax on rules and regulations.
