Yes, I am...and I really don't know why I seem to attract the idiots when I'm out just trying to enjoy a nice flight session on my own.

Could be just a ploy for a date or they might have a genuine intrest in my machines...but either way they still bother me (the idiot ones anyways. it's all about the approach. Scaring my pants off will not get me to talk to you. lol

I don't want to condone anyone drop kick an idiot saying it's a nervous reaction to someone sneaking up behind you but self defense is in the name of self preservation da?

Grow a thick skin? you can practice not jumping every time a loud unexpected noise occurs, have a friend make a loud noise at un rehearsed intervals for a few weeks, like Kato would surprise the Green Hornet dude. Wear a hoodie?

You are probably right... and I do try not to freak out too much. It takes everything I have to continue flying and not to imediately turn around throw my Tx right in his face.

In any case, if you see someone obviously focused on something that looks dangersous and expensive...would you not wait until that person's concentration is released before engaging them in a conversation? Or at least make yourself known before approaching? I would..but that's just me. I'm not a really nervous person, but I still hate being bum rushed from behind with no warning.

Ladymagic I totally agree with you. There have been times when I'm concentrating on a new maneuver, and someone would come up behind me without notice. Sure it will make a person jump. That's when you fly in close!!!

It's not only the hobby.. But on real helicopters too.. People call them jets... Or planes.. And these are people who are supposed to be a little more accustomed to being around aircraft. Try sitting in a meeting with a bunch of fixed wing pilots who want to talk "jet" talk. Or use pilot terms for everyday stuff... "Think I'll just go VFR direct to so and so" .. Try explaining to them how helicopters are completely different from planes and jets.. Then the stupid questions come. Why? How? So now I call everything else a helicopter, or a helo, or whirly bird... "How did your helo's land?"... "That's an A-10"... "Ok... How did your A-10 helo's land?" They get puzzled but eventually they get the point.

Or they ask how much does it cost and how long does it fly for. You say 2k and 5 minutes.
Then they ask you that's all for 2k? Then you have to buy a new battery?
