You can't go wrong buying second hand from most of the well known guys on here. They take supper good care of their models. Most of them are better than a new model. Upgraded, and bugs worked out RTF...No Joke!!! Look for a model you like check the seller out, if he's got a bunch of good feedback, see what all he has, and what he's selling. Chance are you'll get a better than new heli Bind-in-Fly for 1/3 of a new model. And save a ton of cash right off the bat. They just love to try new stuff out and sell off a few and buy something else.

450X is actually a great heli and you can fly the crap out of them! Parts are cheap, easy to work on....dont worry about parts availibilty b/c most people dont sitck to that size heli that long anywyas. Only thing I don't like about them is their presence in the air....going from a micro will be no problem.
But a trex 500 will let you fly it up higher @ a slight price increase. There are a lot of Chinese aftermarket parts that are quite nice and will keep you flying cheap. I have seven Trex 500 with tons of spares. That's how I learn to fly and now starting a flight school after hosting a lot of how to clinics at local flight field and LSH. T500 will give you good visibility @ 50', good float time so it won't drop like a rock (450! ...hehehhehe)... More forgiving and not as intimidating as a 550 size. That would be the ultimate trainer....but probably break dad!
Most of my students came from mcpx, nano, 130X with much success and got trumatized when they jumped to the 450 class. Those suckers are like lil roaches! I have two 450 and fly them to test my skills.

hope this clears up few thoughts for you and not the opposite!
