After reading Juan's post, I took thought, and decided this thread is about the gear setup more so than being a hard 3D pilot, so I am going to add another post.

I started flying helis in 2010, so I can only base what I know personally from that date to present, but across the entire Align heli spectrum that I have flown (500, 600, 700), not once have I ever had the tailcase gear fail before the drive gear failed.

In trying to remember, even in crashes which destroyed tail blades, boom and TT, the tail box umbrella gears have not failed as best as I can remember. What I do feel is that I've replaced far more tail blades and front drive gears than anything else.

Here is a picture of my 700 nitro front gear failure on the old white gear. Inflight failure. Nothing left of that gear.

Where did the pieces go?

Nothing left but the inner gear sleeve?

I haven't used the RC-Tek tail drive case on my 600, but I have two of them on my 500s. It's sorta like the KDE but it is the entire tail case and works great. It might help you out, as you can adjust your mesh.

A big help would be having the KDE shims. Are shims like that available for individual sale from a vendor?

I'm running the booster kit on my 600e(750mx) and the tourqe is absolutely crazy. I'm gonna have to run longer tail blade as the tail kicks on pitch pumps. I haven't had any gear stripping. White gears or black gears. I replace my gears every 40-50 flights no matter what. Just maintenance.... I fly hard but no Alan szabo...

If I could put the 800mx in I would. Love the 750mx power. I only started having problems with the red gears and I bought them just to be safe while normal replacement of the black gears.

The white gear failure I had was on a nitro 700. I only consider myself a moderate 3d pilot so I shouldn't be overtaxing the drive system too greatly.

Did you check your gear mesh when the gears were newly installed? I had to push my in real deep, otherwise they would be tightly meshed.

As said above making sure that umbrella gear is FULLY pushed into the bearings is key. Which is a pain but I found it easy to put in them push it down hard on the carpet till it clicks. Then it's fully set.... Just got red gear in the mail. What's the longest tail blades I can run just 96mm?

I'm getting a tail kick on hard collective pumps "sorry a little off topic". I run 2350 as the mod .08 pretty much requires it. But I guess I could run mod .06 and try....

That couple of gears fails because of wrong interference...
No matter what you do. If you don't solve interference, same problem you will get.
It is not a matter to flying condition...

Bearings issue installation on umbrella gear connected to cardan shaft cause a sloppy an faulty interference between gears.
Axial Bearing very near to umbrella gear is the problem.
When you install on boom support, the two gears remained wide separate... So it stripped very easy...

Bearings worn out on vertical shaft...
Plastic worn out also... Check that...

I got castle 80hv. Trying to get with align to find out timing gain and hs there factory pilots are using. From what I'm reading my settings are off but it flys awesome just a kick. Also my auto gear black one is white all over teeth 4 flights from new front gears.... motor is a monster don't this k gear train was meant for this kind of power.... will be changing gears regular as a part of maintenance. As gear failure during 3d tight close flight can be fatal

Keep in mind electric torque motors are instant comparied to a nitro engine building steam from revs.

Align would be wise to add a metal gear set for stick bangers.
