I have a 3GX mounted on my Trex500. On initial power up it does the 3 bumps and the swash sets level, a half second later the pitch and roll servo's go to full down position. I disconnect then reconnect the battery the swash does it 3 bumps and sets level and remains level. I have had no issues flying it after I reconnect the battery. It has been doing this every time I initially connect the battery. I know this is not normal, any suggestions?

Has it always done this or just since a update?, what version are you running, have you tried updating or reverting to another version?

Hey.

Out of interest what BEC are you using?

Also have you performed a rebind recently? I'm wondering if the 3GX is going to the failsafe positions on power ups that see this problem.
My line of thinking with the BEC is if it is powerful enough, as if not is the initial power up causing a brownout scenario.

+1 on having a good, solid power source for the 3GX.

Also, if a Spektrum radio, re-bind the radio and establish your failsafe positions.

I've seen this behavior on one or two of mine on occasion, binding of the receiver resolved the problem.

When going through the initialization period, don't move the helicopter.

Ok thanks guys, I am running the RCE-BL60G ESC. Yes it has always done this. I will try rebinding my Spectrum, I haven't messed with the failsafe setting yet. Thanks for the tips, I'll update you shortly.

Hey Buddy.

Ah, that could be it. The latest V3.1 firwmare for the 3GX makes it more power hungry and the stock ESC BEC isn't powerful enough.
Align advise keeping the gain pots below the 10 o'clock position if using the stock BEC, but then the cyclic isn't very nice in flight as the 3GX then has a lesser grip on the rotor disk.

If you can, see if you can wire in a better power supply (isolate the ESC's BEC if you still power up the ESC) and then see if this increased power supply fixes the power up issues.

Keep in mind that your receiver will most likely use "maintain last known position" of the rudder, roll, pitch, and collective controls for failsafe, and that throttle failsafe position will be wherever the throttle stick happens to be at time of binding. SOME Spektrum/JR receivers allow pre-set positions, but there is a slightly different binding process to make that happen.

Setting the failsafe, in either form, allows the receiver to drive the servos outputs to a known state during the time the RX has no signal, or the RX/TX are handshaking at power-up.

BTW -- which revision of software are you using in the 3GX at present?
