What do you guys think?

I just got back from the RC Expo in Long Beach and Align was there in force. Alan and the other pilot (didn't catch his name) put on a very impressive demo in the outside flying area.

The problem I had with the whole thing was that these were not "Align Products". They specifically advertised them as "bone stock out of the box", but they were sporting V-Bar flybarless systems on them and not Align 3GX systems!

What the heck???

The Align 550 was sporting a blue V-bar system mounted behind the main shaft that was clear as day to see.

How can you call a V-Barred flybarless helicopter an Align product "stock out of the box"???

I call bull**** and say that this is a classic case of misrepresentation. They are basically saying that they know their 3GX system sux, and even they will not fly with it!

What do you guys think???

Saturday morning I flew my helicopter in my pajamas

If they said they were all Align, that would be misrepresentation. Since the Vbar was in plain sight, could it be the announcer or marketing folk didn't talk to the tech folk?

If it were really from the top down misrepresentation, I would think they would have stuffed a Vbar in the Tree G eX case without the pilots knowing

Me and my 3 friends at the show saw it. 4 witnesses.

And one of us asked the second pilot about the V-Bar. He said he would only fly the V-bar in compitition.

Basically admitting that the 3gx sux.....

Yes, the announcer said that all the helicopters were bone stock out-of-the-box.

And the announcer was a pilot too. He was not just some marketing idiot.

It's the principle of the thing that pisses me off. If your 3gx sux so bad that your pilots won't fly with it, then pull it from the market. But if it is in production, then your pilots should be flying with it. Period.

I'm not saying you need a witness, I'm sure we all believe! Just would have been a great post, with very little to be said.

I only know a few who like the 3GX.

If you are flying align in competition you need a V-Bar???? Ask the Align pilots!

Not all pilots sign up to fly everthing thing from one company. You would have to look at there contracts to really say they were misrepresenting and know what kit they are they flying weather it's a basic kit or what combo kit they are saying is bonesstock

Maybe they are sponsored by both. Their minimal representation is align airframe and maybe servos but also have to represent vbar also. Two birds one stone kinda.

My guess would be that the kit/mechanics were indeed stock. Did they say at any point that the radio gear was Align as well? Do they only offer the kit for sale with a 3GX? The pros can have multiple sponsers so I would agree it depends what's in their contracts. My opinion, for what it's worth, not a big deal. It's not like they denied they were using V-bars.

3gx
I have Ikon, Beastx, Helicommand, and 3gx units. The Ikon and HC have self-level/bailout (You have to program a little to get bailout on Ikon)but other than that and the computer interfaces they can all act very close to the same if you know how to program them and tweak.
You do realize those pilots could plug their servos into a dog turd and fly better than we could with the best FBL units.

When possible shoot first. When that isn't possible shoot fast.

Some pro pilots fly vbar because they want to...Not because they are sponsored to fly it.

I think most pro pilots fly a specific gaget cause they do get something in return beside performance But I also think they have hopes of getting somthing in return from the manufacturer, like free parts, or fishing for a sponsorship. Just like an earlier post said, these guys could plug thier servos into anything including a loaded dirty diaper and outfly 99% of us on our best days.
its getting very competitive out there and any edge you can get over an other pilot or manufacturer, be it shady or misleading seems to be the norm....just look at all the BS ratings on high power lipos...

Its getting to the point that the only people you can trust are those poor dudes you fly with at your local field...

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Or maybe the 3gx is so good, that even Align cant find one for poor Alan to use. So for now they set him up with a pos vbar to use..

Its all earth!

This certainly has been done multiple times in the past by very prominent pilots.

Wow - couldn't have said it better myself!

Hmmm, it was an Align Booth. It only said Align. All Align banners. All the guys flying had Align T-shirts. No other logos. No other sponsors.

All the products displayed on the table were Align products.

I didn't see any V-Bar reps there. No V-bar banners. No V-Bar shirts.

Oh well, believe what you will.

My ethics would not allow for such misdirection, exaggeration, and lying.

I agree - if this was just a fun fly.

But this was the RC Expo. This was the Align Booth representing the Align company. Not a fun fly.

If they are representing the Align company, then their products should represent the company too.

Recent ads from Align say you can win at upcoming events using the 700 nitro/electric helicopter; to qualify machine must be all-Align with the exception of the FBL unit. Guess it's clear the 3GX is not the current rage in flybarless?
