( tax refund )

DPMS Oracle AR15.
Nothing fancy, but with a few strokes of a sharpening stone to clean up the trigger pull it should be a great little plinker.

I get to try it tomorrow.

Good for you. However, YOU purchased that for yourself and in reality, MANY, MANY MORE with the amount of taxes we pay.

My version of the story is accurate enough, and a hell of a lot more fun.

True! Do yourself a favor..if it is your first, put some good iron sights on it first, and once they are sighted in, then go scope mounted.

So far it has a modest 40mm 4 power Nikon scope.
Hoping this set up will do respectably to 200 yards.

Inverted, I have heard these are reasonably good considering the low price - 675$ at 2nd Amendment sports down here in Tucson. the price DPMS lists on their website is 739.

So far it seems pretty good quality, it has a gritty single stage type trigger, similar to the bushmaster i paid double for... i found that a few minutes of careful work with a very small sharpening stone cleans the trigger action up quite a bit.

The ammo is available but has not fully bounced back yet. Folks are still paying extra and showing up early on certain days to get it as they put it on the shelves. I load my own. Primers projectiles and brass can be found with a little luck, but there is no suitable powder anywhere. Not even on line.

Edit:
Update:
I only went out to 50 yards today, but it clearly shoots pretty straight right out of the box with any ammo 50Gr to 62 grain ( i don't have bigger or smaller to test ) I had a lot of trouble with jams.... turns out it had a lot to do with my reloads, and a little rough surface on the chamber.

Should work perfectly next time

Based on it doing so well I decided to upgrade to a mini gas block, a nice lightweight vented floating hand guard with removable rails. At some point I will upgrade to a Magpul stock and grip in that green-ish tan color...
