I had been having small tail blow outs on my 550E since I switched to 550 blades. I had plastic tail blades so I switched back to stock to see if that would fix the problem. I took it out today to try.I started doing sideways loops and lots of hard stops to see where the limit was. I then put it into a funnel. During this funnel as it crossed right in front of me the tail went. This time it was not the normal 90 degree, it was full speed piro. I hit TH but it went in nose first. I should have been mad but it did look really bad ass for about 3 seconds.

Post flight inspection
1. 3 screws in the tail gear box crazy loose one was gone.
2. Tail pitch links had moved over center locking the pitch full one way.
3. The tail bevel gears in the gear box are completely striped.
4. Standard stuff

I first though it was the tail gear box screws were the main factor, but the fact that the bevel gears are 100% striped without the tail touching the ground makes me think they could have been the main factor and the bolts were contributing.

Any incite?

I have a 3D heli, I don't understand why it doesn't do 3D

If the bolts loosen, does that not introduce play in the bevel gears?
If so, there is your problem, as with too much play, less of the gears are touching each other and therefore cannot cope with the power and therefore strip.

if not, well dunno
