Tragic ending in response to my post a week ago, having just maidened a new, stock 300x. As it had been rainy/windy for the past week I decided to take advantage of a clear (but breezy) evening for some stick time and managed to hook the skids in the grass on a slow, low fly by. Given that the wind was a bit much for the 130x it would have been wise to fly higher when I bought the 300x out, but noooooooooooooooo.....

For what was such a benign crash the damage almost approaches the halfway mark to a new bird. Blades, grips and tail boom bent at a 45 degree angle confirm boom strike at moment of impact. The frame, landing gear, canopy and skids are fine, but most everything else is missing or broken. The tail case split in half and I've yet to find the tail rotor assembly....all three cyclic servos are stripped. Hopefully the AR7200BX is OK so I can donate that to another machine

Is this the standard for crash-ability with the 300x or just an unlucky grass-plant on my end? Kind of a shame as I had ~25 flights on this bird and was really enjoying it; it flies big, it's great for the back yard and the 7200BX has awesome flight characteristics. At this point I'm on the fence about replacing it or moving onto the 450x, which understandably might not fare much better, but I would hope would not be a total wreck in what could have been a small incident.

I've owned and flown several Align 450 models as well as the Blade 450 3D, but not the 450x. Just surprised at the amount of damage that the 300x had for what was such a minor mishap. Perhaps I'm just spoiled from daily thrashings that the 130x handles with ease (give or take a few nylon gears along the way).

Always sucks to hear about a crash. One thing that will really minimize damage is to make it a habit to hit throttle hold before the model impacts. Meaning, as soon as you realize it's going in, hit hold. MUCH less damage.

Sorry for your crash mate. Like Brian says, throttle hold is your friend. Sounds like you were too low to do this and hence kinda lots of damage.

My usual crash bits for both my 300x and 450x include main gear, main shaft, spindle, main blades, canopy, sometimes boom, sometimes landing gear, and stock servo gears. About the same crash costs for both heli's.

Hard to say what is best for you to do but given the amount of damage you could either re-build or maybe sell the 300x ar7200bx unit and put these $'s towards a 450x. If it were me I'd probably go for a nice new 450x. It's a much better designed heli and fly's like a lot bigger heli than the 300x imho.

Cheers,
TomC

Yup, not a chance for throttle hold on this one. But then again, it was such a slow, lumbering fly past to the landing area I didn't expect anything exciting to happen. My bad for flying that low to start with.
