This is what I do:

Storage: 50% at <50deg (usually in vegi bin in refer)

Charge: Lowest V setting (usually 4.15-4.18 on TP820 charger) and kept no more than 2 weeks. Charged packs are also stored in refer whenever possible.

Some chargers have quick 95% charge mode which effectively charge it to 4.15 or so as well.

Study has shown 4.20v at 90deg for 3months can reduce capacity (not # of cycles) by as much as 30%

Get a beer refer (1.6 cu ft) for a $100 or so and store packs there.

Don't forget that discharging to storage also takes away from your cycle life.

A small fridge is my next purchase. I don't plan to keep them cold, just cool.

A good condensation removal would make it easier to go to 32deg rather than 50deg. I will have to try a zip-lock bag and see how it prevents condensation while warming back to room temp.

I was a bit off on the temps.

See below

You can assume that 100% charged (<4.15v) stored in a fridge will lose roughly about the same amount of capacity as storage charged at 70-80deg room.

Holy smokes guys. Forget about all the technical crap and just fly already!! LOL!!

Like I said earlier, I've never storage charged any of my packs, kept them in a fridge, made sweet love to them, blah blah blah and have never had an issue. Granted, I obey the 80/20 rule, never store them in a hot car, balance every charge, etc... but I think some folks go WAYYYYYYY over board!!

Have fun and fly

^ best post in this thread^

I agree. 80/20 rule, keep out of high temp areas, and balance charge is about all that is necessary to get good life out of a pack. Store charging doesn't hurt. If you forget one time however, and go a couple of days without, its not going to ruin your batteries or even cause any noticeable difference in performance.

go fly!

After I was storing my Lipo at Storage-Voltage for a few weeks

is it OK to recharge it directly with a high C-rate (for example 2C)

or is it better to use a low C-rate for the first charge.

Maybe it doesn't matter?

Any advice ?

Marc

I would think it wont matter. You have a store charge start point.betteries support 2X it will perform as expected.

Marc, hammer charge the packs from storage. It won't hurt them. The worst thing you can do is not get quite 100% charge (99.9% is fine for most anyway). What you never want to do is charge a LiPo when it is hot unless you plan to use it immediately. If you charge when hot then let it cool down, it will be overcharged, which is damaging. Puffing and sometimes smoke typically results from this.
