In the last hour, millions of flying bugs have emerged from where ever they were hiding. It's hard to take a breath without sucking one in.

Shudder...

Update: an hour later, they were mostly all gone again.

Here is an interesting center stage flight at IRCHA. At least no one was seriously hurt!

I was at IRCHA this year and all thou these guys are great pilots things happen. I believe they fly too close to themselves. Remember these are very powerful machines being controlled by electronics that can fail at any time and also the human error involved. Luckily this particular pilot wasn't hurt but it had potential of being a bad situation.

Observe the classic posturing duck n cover method used by so many of us in our youth as we tried to dodge the impending knock by our parents for doing foolishness. Well my friends, this would not work here but to each thine own. Glaaaaaad no one got hurt.

Could have been nasty for sure. But as stated at least no one was hurt. Carry on. Thanks to EVERYONE who made IRCHA possible from the IRCHA board all the way to the attendees and vendors. A very successful year.

Huge kudos for hitting throttle hold! I am so glad this guy hit throttle hold as soon as he did. Likely any more inertia in the blades and he would have been bleeding pretty good. And if hit with full power he probably would have been dead. AND lucky the rotor was spinning in the direction such that it hit him over the back. If spinning the other way, his gut would have taken the blow.

With today's very strong gears, they won't strip as easily when hitting flesh and bone. The path of least resistance is slicing into the body. The truth sucks.

Nice friend he has... his friend ran up to the heli, not him. Kinda not cool. He's like "oh my god are the blades ok??"

Actually the friend looked pretty smart to me, the heli was still running so the guy was trying to kill the engine before something worse happened like the heli going full power and chicken dancing and hitting the guy more.

I think he was trying to make sure the heli wouldn't continue spinning and possibly cause more damage to his friend.

It was Jamie Dumanski that ran out and got control of the heli...And very rightly so.
You are correct! I am the nitro/electric guy that ran out. My son is the boy running away. He was the spotter. He is 7 years old and has been flying 3 years. He performed his demo 10 minutes after this happened.

Now, if you look at my hands when I am running out, I am asking Paul if he is okay, he acknowledged me enough that I knew he was conscious.

My number one concern was the heli was still running and he had the transmitter. If he or anyone else or if he passed out and dropped it, it could have turned throttle hold off. That would have put it back in idle 2.

I ran it out on the flightline and stepped on it while killing the engine.

Wanted to be safe.

Paul is okay, small 3" cut on his back. I personally along with my wife took care of him cleaning it and bandaging it the rest of the day.

It did not even bleed.

Paul did a great job and the best any of us could have to try and stop a problem that went bad.

I preach to Mason that as a pilot and a spotter he always keeps his eye on the heli. As you can see he had a mad dash going on.

I literally never use the word literally right.
