Well guys I just bought a raptor 50. This is my first nitro so I figured I would consult the brain trust here on RR. So what do I need to know/do/check. What are some best practices for up keep. I'm planning to run 15% nitro in the OS 50 hyper. Im not completely green in the world of heli's but no where near w vet either(have been flying a SR for about 1.5 years.
Thanks for the help.

JUST A SUGGESTION - might try 20% fuel. It'll be a bit more power than 15, good tuneability, and cheaper than 30.

Other than that, get good servos whether going with FBL or not. I have an SE Titan & an X-50 converted to FBL & flu them both ALOT !

Welcome to the nitro addiction...

Thanks for the suggestion I plan to go with 15%. Not too worried about extra power since I'm only trying to get from one end of the field to the next

Three things come to mind to do/watch for....

1. If your heli doesn't already have the carbon base plate installed on your frames, install one now. It helps protect the frames in a crash saving you alot of work.

2. If you like doing autos, keep an eye on the belt alignment where it passes the idler pulleys. A few too many bumpy landings can cause a slight bow to form in the tail boom causing the belt to ride against the shoulders of the idler pulleys. If this condition is allowed to continue, the belt will eventually jump the idler pulley and trash the frames. Just look this area over in your preflights and you should be fine.

3. If you are using the older bleach bottle canopies, install some kind of bolt through the lower canopy clip and into the gear. There have been instances on this clip letting go during flips causing the canopy to move and interfere with the swash. I drilled and threaded my canopy clip so that it would accept a 3mm bolt.

Hope this helps. Welcome to the club

Congrats!

After cutting my teeth on a couple of Align electrics (Trex 550e and 500ESP) I just built my first Raptor kit. A Titan 50. This weekend I've run four tanks through her to break in the engine and get everything trimmed up. I'm excited! Seems like it's going to be a great flying heli!

Have fun with it. Let us know how it goes.

The Titan is still mechanical mix correct? I had a V2 Raptor 30 and a 50 and loved them. If they are mechanical mix ,,don't let anyone get to you that they aren't CCPM. Bunch of poop unless you want to be cutting edge. There are plenty of videos showing what they can do in capable hands and you can't tell a difference. Did you buy it used or new? That can make a difference,,,but do mod the bottom of the canopy. I was doing backwards flight and the canopy acted like an umbrella ,,pulled off and jammed the swashplate and she went in!!

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Yep, the Titan uses mechanical mixing. It's essentially a Raptor V2 with a longer tail boom to support longer blades and a push/pull elevator.

I finished the engine break in and did some maiden flights yesterday. It's awesome!

well i got it up but a screw came off on the pitch control servo and I lost control and lost it. Bought the crash kit to fix it and the holes on the side of the tail boom do not fit the tail block on it. Asked a buddy and he did not think the tail was a raptor tail. I looked online to try and find the right after market metal tail but cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone know if something from the newer lines work?

The raptor helicopters are a super heli, I have way too many of them!Look after them and they give years of trouble free flying.

If it doesnt move and its meant too... use WD 40. If it moves and its not meant too...use duct tape!

You need PV0027 Tail Case or you can use PV1411 Metal Tail Case. I was thinking the same as Jason, a tail boom.
