I am unable to update my CGY750 from v1.2 to v1.30 or v1.31

I have owned the unit from new when it was shipped with v1.0

I have a CIU-2 update module and have used it before with no problems to update to v1.1 and then to v1.2

The unit has never been crashed and is in excellent working order - I have flown it today on v1.2

I have tried many times to update to v1.3 and it just fails every time. I have tried with and without the Y lead, and I have tried alternative power supplies, including a simple 4.8V NiCd pack plugged straight into a servo port on the unit.

I get an 'Error' popup on the computer that says 'This connected product does not match the update file' and the CGY750 updater reads 'Failed'. Also still get the 'Type Mismatch' on the CGY unit itself.

I have tried updating to v1.30 and directly to v1.31 and get the same errors. I have even tried doing the update from different computers, and get the same failure result every time.

Any ideas please?

So will the 750 enter "update ready" and at least start the writing process, or are all those error messages occur before that?

Have you tried to re-download the firmware update in case in some way the file was corrupted or were the attempts on the various computers from fresh downloads each time?

Yes, I've tried re-downloading the update package with no difference.

Yes, the CGY750 enters 'Update Ready' when I power-up with the button pressed.

The 'Type Mismatch' error (and all the other errors) comes up on the CGY after I click the 'Write' button on the computer.

Every time I have updated 750's, my power goes directly into the CIU-2 and not the 750.
Don't see why it should make any difference but you never know ?
I put the Y lead into the CIU-2 then connect a normal 4.8 battery and switch to 1 outlet and the S-Bus lead into the other.
Hold down button and switch on, then write update file and all done with no problems.

Where in the UK are you located ?

That's a very kind offer.

I do have a club-mate who lives very close to me who also uses CGY750s and has a 18MZ transmitter. Apparently, he can do updates via the 18MZ, so I might try that option next maybe.

However, I'd prefer to see my own system working correctly.

I use an 18MZ also and updates can only be done via a laptop or pc - not by 18MZ

Not saying you should need to, but have you ever tried to do the update with a 7.4v battery instead of a 4.8?
Just a thought.

I've tried with the regulated 6V lithium supply that's in the heli and a stand-alone 4.8V NiMh pack. Makes no difference.

It sounds like your process is correct. You could try to confirm that by saving your CGY750 settings to your computer. If that works the problem is probably not in the CIU2 or its program or in the way you are hooking things up.

If you are not able to save the settings then it would indicate that there is something wrong with the software in the CGY750 itself but still could be a problem in the CIU2 software or hardware.

If you can save the settings then you might try reloading 1.2 and see what that does or even downgrading to 1.1. I am not sure if the programming is written to check and not update if it is the same version but that would be a trouble shooting test. I have downgraded and that did work for me.

It would also be handy if you had another CGY750 to test. Maybe a buddy has one and you could try to save his settings. If you can't save settings from your CGY750 but can from anther unit that would point to the CGY750 itself.

Just some thoughts.

Everything I can think of has been suggested. I wish you could find another 750 to try to update. It is beginning to look like the problem is isolated to this particular 750.

Supply voltage is no issue. NiCd power works fine.

I would try using the GY701/CGY750 link tool to see if can save your settings like Wyorcflyer mentioned to see if you CUI-2 can communicate correctly with the CGY750.

Could be a USB driver issue as well but sounds like you may have already re-installed the software.

Best bet is try crossing potential causes off the list. Do you have another CGY750 or even a GY701 to try updating as well to see if the problem is particular to that unit.

Also not sure but do you have the sensor unplugged? Never tried it without, but it may not like it without a sensor actually plugged in. I think the vbar is like this.

I had same issue updating to1.31 from 1.30. If you close the unziped updates window with the 2 folders called update.exe and gy750.bin files Hook up the cube first and down load update and power up 750 while holding down mode plus button the unzip. Update 1.31 update and click update. If you close the folder that contains the file that contains the update files it comes up with that error.. click the update button the apears when u double click the update.exe folder. I hope this helps.

I have managed to save a backup file with no bother at all, so there's no issue with the CUI-2.

I don't have any alternative product to try.

aerogyro - are you basically saying - plug the unit into the computer and power up in preparation for the update, then re-download the update zip package, unzip and run while the 750 is already connected?

Gotta be worth a try?
