That's cool! It makes me remember when I was a kid (12-13) flying airplanes at an old abandoned airport in Pascagoula. That kind of stuff never leaves you! Good to see you've got him started early.

He'll probably have the same memories in 20-some-odd years like I do! And there's video to boot! Can't beat that...

Thats fantastic! I have a little girl on the way that I'm hoping will spark an interest in this hobby so we can go flying together. Only time will tell

Interesting comment. Grandpa and I had this conversation at the flying field yesterday morning...and in short, here is how my son got there.

We love flying, airshows, airplanes and just about anything that flys. This includes grandpa. My son is with me as much as possible when we do things. He was at a funfly at 1 week with the wife and I, he was at the airshow a month later....as all my kids. And of course, every time we go to the store.....YEP, I know.BAD DAD...but he gets a $2.00 airplane because he asks for them. Between hotwheels and planes, he has plenty. I have never pushed him for anything, if he showed interests, we supported him.

Flight sim...he has rules in the house, sleeping in his room, behavior at school ect. So its a reward for him to get flying time. As for that, I never coached him, I let him have fun and do whatever he wanted...I downloaded planes he wanted, and walla! HE just had fun fun fun flying and crashing..that was worry some because like all kids, THEY LOVE TO SEE CRASHES!

So, as he got older, I would tell him, the day you land and take off, we will buy you a real plane to fly. And one day he called my in the room and said, daddy...watch....he took off, and landed and took off and landed over and over again....

end of story

Funny thing is...at the field...I can sit and watch him all day...and never once want to fly.

Thanks for sharing your experience/tips. I figured I would invite her along with me when I go to the field and make sure there are a few RC toys kicking around the house that she can play with to help intrigue her. If she takes up an interest in it then it will be a nice added bonus to an already good situation!

that's cool, start them young, i started at 8yrs old, with no father or mother watching. club members always helped me, and my dad could care less.
some family support would been cool

"Corbin, what are the rules today?"

"I know, I know, don't fly better than the adults cause it makes them feel bad"

My dad wouldn't let me near his transmitter growing up. Always pissed me off. Kids pick this stuff up so much easier at an early age. I sure fly now though

Hats off to all the dads out there that get their kids behind the sticks to share in the joy of flight.
