Would the Align T-Rex 250 PRO DFC be a good choice for a smaller size e-heli? I am looking for a smaller heli that is bigger than a micro and can be flown on windy days (within reason of course) and a smaller space. My backyard would allow for some hovering and a little forward flight but I would need to get out to a bigger space to fly it more aggressively.

In any case, I am not familiar with Align being out of the hobby for some time. Is Align a good choice these days? I am looking at the 250 PRO DFC Super Combo.. Good way to go?

Thanks!

I have the 250 pro but I do not have the DFC head on it. I still have the flybar. The 250 is a good choice. Align has come a long way with their smaller helis. Another one to think about is the Blade 130x. The main difference here is that the 250 is a little easier to work on than the 130, and the 130 out of the box may or may not need work on it before you fly it. The quality control on the 130x is spotty. I had to replace the tail section with a microheli one to get it to stop the tail vibrations. The 250 you will have to build from the ground up.

I think rpat has it covered.

I have both the Trex 250 DFC and the Blade 130x. When the 130 is flying well it can't be beat. It'll take most hits into the ground with minimal to no damage which is good since I crash it so often. But it does seem to run into various mechanical and electrical issues. boom slips out a bit causing gear issues. servos go out. tail seems to have bearing issues.

The 250DFC is a high headspeed/high performance heli. It's a handful. flies way better than the previous generations that had flybars because the DFC head eliminates all the play that is so common in a flybar'd 250 head. The DFC is also shaft drive tail and a better tail control mechanics.

Two issues with a 250 as a back yard flyer.
1. They need a bit more space unless you are just hovering. Need to make sure there are no kids or pets around because it will hurt them.
2. There will be a repair bill every time you crash it. This is a high headspeed heli with CF blades.

the 130 and 250 aren't really comparable. I see the 250 as a small 450 but requires just about the same space to fly. I have the 450DFC also and I'm thinking of selling my 250DFC because I use the 450 instead of the 250.

so for me a better stable mate to the 130x is a 450DFC. 250DFC is a great flying heli though and if you want a 250 size it's the one to get IMO.

If you want something bigger than a micro but smaller than a 450 then the trex 250 dfc is pretty much your only choice! Very good heli.... if you sell the 3gx and put a beastx on it!

60% of the time, it works every time!

Another vote for the 130X. Awesome flying little heli once you get it set up right and it will require much less space. I recommending skipping the 250 class size altogether with a 130X and the 450 size of your preference.

Make sure you read through the 130X section so you have a understanding on how bad of a heli it is.So many have servos/main boards fail than flight time..
Bought my son one and the main board fried as soon as I plugged the lipo in..Got the new main board then the front servo burned up during the 3rd flight setting up pitch..Sold it and bought a Nano which is IMO a MUCH better micro heli. After ya buy the 130X then all the upgrades needed for gear stripping and vibes, you could of took all that $$ and bought a FBL 250...The 130X is one heli I would never tell someone to buy..Sorry guys but after owning it for a month and only able to fly it 2 1/2 times then reading all the others having same issues, not even close to worth the $$..
Get a Trex 250 or nano because its a crap shot with the 130X..

Oh wait and see how the new double brushless mCPX turns out. That thing has the "potential" to be an awesome micro, but only time will tell...
