Hi All, yep, I'm still not flying yet. I only have a couple hours per week to dedicate to this beast. I have a Trex 450 W/3GX and DX8.

I thought I had everything set up fairly well over the holidays and got up the nerve to spool it up. I made a set of training gear as I wasn't sure how the heli would react.

I spooled it up and realized I needed to adjust the tail linkage so I shut it down. The next spool up and tail still needed more work. I didn't bring it to a hover yet but it was very light on the skids and i could tell that it was very sensitive and needed to somehow be subdued.

I didn't want to crash on my test flight so I went out and got the Phoenix sim. I first tried the Trex 450 and it felt exactly like mine, very senstive. I could hardly hover the model. I played around with the settings (set it to beginner) and I was able to control it just fine.

Now I'm going back through the setup to see where it can be toned down. Does anyone have any tips? I heard the blade grips can be turned upside down for a more beginner feel. Is this true?

The big problem, however, is that I can't get the 3GX to boot up. Again, I'm trying to go back through the set up. I can't get the 3GX to turn on in DIR mode or regular mode. I'm using a single sat receiver with no main receiver. When I power the system sometimes the sat receiver flashes on and off, sometimes it flashes just once when the bat is connected, then goes off, and, sometimes it turns on and stays lit. I tried to re-bind the system but nothing changed.

I must have tried 25 times and still nothing. One time one of the servos moved after the bat was connected but no lights on the 3GX. This makes me wonder if there is a short or loose wire somewhere. Checked everything and didn't find anything

Could I have the ESC in a mode that won't allow the 3GX to power up? After the spoolup I did boot the 3GX up in DIR mode and started going back through the setup. I shut down the system as I realized I didn't unplug the motor wires. After I unplugged the motor I tried to go back in and it hasn't turned on since.

There has never been an incident with a popping noise or smoke or any indication that I damaged the 3GX.

Ideas?

Thanks

might be a stupid question, but is the Tx on? Also, try using a regular receiver instead of the sat, just to rule that out.

Another silly question but did you unplug the bind plug? All other spektrum RX's can be operated with the bind plug in but the 3GX will just sit there and do nothing till you unplug the bind plug.

This may cause some arguments but if you have a little extra money, get a Microbeast AR7200BX instead of the 3GX especially as you are a beginner! Far easier to setup and will feel so much more locked in!

60% of the time, it works every time!

I must have tried 25 times and still nothing.
Try re-binding. As unit is turned on, pull bind and should start right up.

The 3GX will not power up if the receiver is not bound. And certain Spektrum receivers are known to lose their binding. So +1 to the above, re-bind.

Hi, I have gone through the binding procedure multiple times today and the 3GX still does not light up. The sat receiver now has a solid light as if it is bound.

Jimmy,

And you pulled the bind plug out while the unit was powered on?

none at all. No indication that i did something to blow the unit. How would I test that it is getting power?

You indicated in the statement below the satellite is getting power.
The sat receiver now has a solid light as if it is bound.
The satellite is pugged in the 3GX port 1. You are getting power to the satellite, but the 3GX is not powering up.

IDK...

Anyone?

What transmitter are you using with this installation? Oops -- just re-read your first post. DX8.

Wild and crazy thought out of left field. I think the DX8 has a way to tell it to bind in DSM2 mode, instead of DSMx. If that's the case, tell the DX8 to use DSM2 protocol.

buddy of mine has a trex 505 that I maintain, had about 200 flights and worked perfect right up to the point of failure, worked one flight and has never powered up again, cannot communicate in the software either, was just simply there on one flight and not on the next. replaced the 3gx with a Ar7200 using the same sat and been good ever since.

3 months old? Call HeliPal on Monday and ask them if there is anything they can do for you, and let them know you have a receipt. It looks bleak, but its worth a shot.

Good luck.
