Ben is a truly impressive kid! I met him two years ago at Mt. Pleasant Texas, and was blown away at his flying.. He is very humble and willing to help new and old pilots alike (myself!) and I'm very glad to call him my friend.. He is a bad ass guitar player too! Align got a good one with him at the sticks. He should do well at XFC flying the new 700 DFC.. Rock on catbird!

Really? Somebody offers you a better deal when in today's heli world, it's just flavors of ice cream on which machine you choose and you wonder?

That's funny.. In NASCAR or any other sport somebody see your talented and they come up and offer a "bigger better deal" and nobody questions switching sponsors.. but in heli's "it's a big ??? mark?" Please..

I wonder if they did that to Alan Szabo when he decided as a young man he didn't want to fly for Kalt or Thunder Tiger anymore? I think not.. He started with a Kalt machine by the way.. Like he wasn't going to outgrow that?

Looks like Align is starting to re-load the team with some real talented competitive pilots once again. I see no reason why they shouldn't. Good for them for snagging a great pilot!

The relationship between sponsored pilots and their sponsors is very dynamic, and differs sharply between all the parties involved. Very few people actually really know all the details of those relationships (as it should be), and thus much of the speculation about why pilots change sponsors is off the mark.

The dynamics are widely varied. Some sponsors pay/support more, some less, some pay/support more (or less) based on performance, and some pay/support the same regardless. The size and marketing philosophy of the sponsoring company plays a part. They're all different. Owners and team managers...all different. Each pilot needs to assess all this, and decide if they fit with the sponsor or not.

And that fit can (and does), often change over time. So be it.

Some pilots go/stay for the money, some go/stay because of the product, some leave due to personality conflicts, some stay (possibly for less money/support), because they like and trust the sponsor, some stay out of loyalty and work through issues with the sponsor, others bail often and hop from company to company. So be it.

One reason that's quite unlikely in any scenario, is that the reason a pilot moves from one sponsor to another, is that they suddenly wake-up one morning and discover the product offered by the new sponsor, is somehow vastly superior to the product he was just yesterday in-love with (and flying it well, otherwise the new company wouldn't be interested).

I know Ben and his dad John personally, and wish them both the best, regardless of who Ben is flying for at the moment.

@ BladeStrikes,

Yes, sweet for Ben, and I wish him well.

But you're just looking for a fight here making claims about me that are not true. But, there's nothing to fight about, and here's why.

The context of my post was general in nature about why ANY pilot makes a change. And the part you quoted me on, states in the first sentence, "...unlikely in ANY scenario...", which follows the general nature and context of my post.

Nowhere in my post will you find any reference to any specific brand, nor any specific "brand" reasons why pilots change sponsors. Everything stated is general in nature to AVOID just what you're claiming. I guess you took it all the wrong way, and want to make something out of it that's not there.

Ben will now promote Align, but won't trash Mikado. Bobby Watts now promotes Gaui, but doesn't trash MA. Nick Maxwell promotes Raptor, but doesn't trash CYI. It's like that because these guys usually operate with some professionalism. And so, Kyle (and me vicariously), promote Mikado, but you'll have to look hard to find a bunch of posts to support your claim against me that I have a history that earns me the title of, "..known for trash talking Align..." That's just not true.

Besides, what I said IS true. (ANY) pilot rarely changes sponsors because they suddenly realize (ANY) one brand is clearly superior to another. There are usually other reasons involved.

That's all I was trying to say. Don't read more into it than that.

Dave
