I have a 6 year old 450SE and I'm curious if I can still get parts for this if I break it. I've had it sitting on the shelf ever since I got it and finally got around to getting all the electronic equipment I need for it to get it off the ground...

Problem: I know I'm going to crash it and I would rather leave it in one piece if I'm not going to be able to make repairs after it goes down. At least at this point in time I can hang it on display and purchase a new one that is repairable if parts have been discontinued for my heli.

Question: If parts break on the 450SE will the V2 or the PRO parts drop in or are they too far different for it to work that way? I'm not opposed to upgrading to newer style parts as they break so long as they will fit and work.

I know its racking the brains a little on this one but any experience or info would be much appreciated.

I would hang it

As low as what these are going for with good electronics it would be cheaper in the long run to buy something newer as the SEv2 or even a pro most local HS have parts available or online

most of the Trex 450 sport parts will fit, but not all. But finding parts for the original 450SE is super easy and cheap. Biggest difference is the V2 and newer sport use a different spindle. I think the flybar'd versions all use the same main shaft. Don't buy the 450 Pro mainshafts they are different lengths even for the flybar'd version. They all use the same tail booms. You can upgrade to the newer V2 or sport head pretty cheap if you look around in the classifieds as people convert them to FBL.

Thanks for the info!

It sounds like I can slowly upgrade as I crash and keep on learning. It would be a shame to bench it after being on the shelf for six years so I'm happy to hear it can still be repaired. Thanks for the website dealers, I'll look around to get a better sense of what parts can be had I'm keeping busy on the mCPx for now (I have a lot of learning to do) so its going to be a while still before it makes it off the ground (but not another 6 years!)

The complete Sport head pops up now and then in the classifieds. I liked it better than the v1&v2 heads. Also, the much improved battery mount drops right in. I hated the short metal mount. The Sport one is plastic and solid.

Off the top of my head, the main differences are the Sport lower frames are more narrow so the bottom plate and landing gear won't fit. The head is different (complete assy will fit fine), canopy, and motor.

Align is like a VW or Chevy small block parts are readily available. If not, something better fits.

What is it about the sport head that you prefer? Do the different heads have much difference in handling characteristics?

The Sport head felt more composed when (trying to) stick bang, bailing out of a botched maneuver, and at the bottom of a fast all positive pitch loop. It tracked better when flying fast IMO.

Btw this the Sport v1 & v2 head. Not sure about the v3. It looks different than v1 v2.
