Who all uses this method of shipping? Does it cost the same as if you went to the post office and mailed something, Flat Rate Or Priority Mail?(minus the gas you may save) If I get the free supplies, and sign up for an account does the account cost anything, Or only when I print & pay for my labels? I don't want to run to post office every time I sell something. I need to try and make some extra money from home. I plan to use my PP to pay for my shipping. Guess first thing to do is buy some ink for my printer.
I have a older HP Photsmart 2575v I guess this will work ok? I know the printer works, just getting it setup to print labels. Hows does that work, do you print on the labels they send you?
What all should I get? I want to ship cheap as possible. Variety of flat rate box sizes, and envelops for small stuff?
Just labels, flat rat boxes, and envelopes?

If you have experience using this please tell me a little about it so I can decide what to do.
I'd appreciate some of your guys help with this.

I would have called the post office and asked them, but I'd probably forgot half of what I needed to ask. Or they may give me wrong info. I trust you guys more.

And Thanks.

Actually, the USPS's free services works great.

Used it for many years with very, very, very few errors in the works. Half those were my fault.

Everything is free, and it actually is a little cheaper to print online versus going to the office. They do not provide the actual label paper for your printer though, as far as I know. When you print a label online its a half sheet of paper - you can use sticky labels (half sheet) or regular paper and tape it on.

It's easy....

Order your supplies and get them delivered.

Shipping rates are actually cheaper than the storefront, you get free tracking on all your packages.

Don't short your weight when you input the data on shipping methods that need the weight declared.

Make sure that you only use priority supplies with priority postage...it won't ship otherwise.

Dump all your crap at the post office.

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

So I need to get me a set of scales? 10# to be on the safe side?

USPS.com only shows one size of box small which is fine, but the envelops are big. Maybe I can pick some other sizes up at the post office. I only plan to ship small stuff. Some heli parts, and anything else I can aquire.

I have ordered (recently) all the sizes of flat rate and weight based boxes including the triangles (blades and booms)

Also hit ebay you can get a few hundred of the shipping labels (they are a full sheet of paper with a die cut adhesive backed label portion and a normal sheet on the other side that work in every printer) for a few bucks.

A scale would be good, ebay has those for under ten bucks

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

OK I got my scales. Any tips on how to use USPS region map, and any other tools to help me get a ball park idea of the shipping cost for a given size item? Before I post something for sale. So I'll have a idea what to ask for shipping.

Or should I just stick what I plan to sell in a box, or envelop and calculate the shipping from USPS website, for a random zip code to get an idea what to ask for shipping?

E-bay had/has a postage calculator built into it for parcel post, and flat rate, but I hear it's acting up on sellers and costing them more money.

I may try and sell some stuff (not necessarily all rc items) on e-bay, or where ever.

Just have to get my shipping weight exact so nothing will come back from post office on me. And I'll want them to pick it up. So I'll have to schedule a pickup if something sales.
Is that right I can pay & print shipping on just plain paper and tape it on??? They will horror that?

Thanks

Thats the most efficient and cheapest way.

Go with USPS "Priority Mail" whenever you can and unless otherwise requested. That is also the most efficient and cheapest way in the long run.

For shipping large numbers of items that is not the most efficient way, see my other posts. Printing on paper and taping each one works but a paper adhesive label is wicked faster and less materials.

Best way to set up your shipping costs is weigh the item and the packing supplies that it will go in then charge the amount of the furthest point it can go....with priority it's usually all pretty straight forward, with flat rate it's very straight forward.

After awhile you'll get a feel for it and won't need to pre weigh...that said when you list multiple auctions its counterproductive to pre package stuff as a lot of buyers buy multiple auctions...

I always tack a little (usually a buck) onto shipping for materials/fuel etc...don't go buck wild as it will sour buyers with high flippen shipping costs.

As far as multiple items....I always did it as the most expensive shipped item and add 2 bucks per every other item after that.

Bottom line, on most of em you'll make a buck....some you'll under quote shipping and you'll loose a buck or two sometimes....it all works out in the wash.

I banned any shipments overseas....I've had too many issues with em, I would however suck it up and ship to APO (military) addresses even though its an epic PIA. Shipping to the US territories and HI (as well as AK) is more expensive, still ship there but charge accordingly....I used to put a rider in the shipping saying that....custom shipping quote to those areas.

Look at ebay under the similar items that others are selling and get a feel for what the shipping is doing....

The best learning tool is doing it. Quite honestly your over thinking this.

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

Thanks Salty, that was about what I was looking for. It had been many years since I last sold anything on eBay. So just fishing to see what was in the water, then bait accordingly.
