See what happens when it's too cold / windy to fly ? I go thru my old part bins & say "Hmmmm Wonder if....."

With all old spare parts, this jumped out of a bin. 3G unit picked up a few seasons back, just had to get servo's & a speed control for the tail & a tail motor.

Making the FBL head was the easy part, remembering how to program the tail speed control thru the radio & then to play nice with the 3G was the challenge...

Test hover was a success - now just gotta get good weather to start seeing what it'll do !!!
SPECS :
Main motor : 3900kv Blade SR motor, 11T Pinion
Tail motor : 2500kv eFlite 180BL2
ESC : Thunderbird 18 Main (cuz I had it)
Thunderbird 9 Tail
Servos : Hitec HS-5055MG's
Micro-Heli delrin CP Pro maingear w/auto hub
Micro-Heli 255 CP Pro Carbon Mains
850 mah 3S 25c batt

Winter Time CAN be productive !!! A 300 size to play with for about $120 buks, OR "Can I get that mCPX Biggie Size?"

UPDATE

FINALLY got to fly-off a couple batteries... I'm impressed on how well the tail is holding. I was concerned that the tail motor kv was a bit low, but with a 4dia X4pitch prop it wags just a bit on pitch-pumps. SO FAR - FF flight & flips seem to hold fine

NOW the winds are back up & snow on & off, so backwards stuff & tail-slides will have to wait a few more days.

Got a 6100kv motor to swap-out if more authority is needed

Still gotta manage collective, BUT this will be FUN around the yard !

Might have to dig out the vid camera...

UPDATE

FINAL SETUP
Been putting LOTS of flighttime on this machine ~ now my 'GOTO HELI' for in the yard !

Tail motor upgraded to a 6100kv (Main motor for a 130) tail prop is one from a Parkzone Micro cub, trimmed 1/8" off each tip, so it's approx 94Dx60P.
Alum head-block is modded from a SKYARTEK, and added a Micro Heli alum frame, cuz these 2 would break if I crashed going backwards & upside-down...
Except for the wild piro'ing moves, this setup will do most stuff pretty darn good
Rotor RPM Idle2 @ 98% 3100
Weaknesses are : Full L Rudder is weak, 'cuz that's the direction of zero tail throttle & the gyro tries to compesate it some..
AND if the tail motor overheats, there's not a way to re-set it, so it becomes a semi-controlled piro'ing crash?!? I have got away with it once with NO DAMAGE...
GREAT use for an old Align 3G

Hi, I realize this is an old post, but are you still flying this? Someone just gave me an old CP PRO and I have a brushless inrunner ordered for it and am going to stick an Orange RX in and a head lock gyro. I have an extra Walkera 3 Axis controller on the shelf and might be a fun project someday, although I'm not sure if the Walkera controller is programmable enough or would work with the stock servos. Just curious.

YES - in fact I ran off a couple packs this past Sat in 17-20 MPH winds! Tail motor really screaming at some times, but never blew-out..
Some of my local flying buds that I let wring it are very impressed.. As long as your not 'Slamming' rudder, it will do even mild piro-flips ..
If you need any specific help when you convert it, drop me a PM.

One last thing - the original setup was using an 11T Pinion on the main motor. I'm now using a T-Tiger 13T pinion from a Mini Titan. 11T will fly it, 12T is OK, But the 13T will make it ZING !!!
