beeflyer2,

Just seen your post above. 12s packs.
I was going to try a 560kv motor, but can't decide 7s or 8s packs. More options with 7s packs by the looks of it.

Nice pics.
Do you know what your AUW is?
My kit should be here this week. Build might take me awhile due to lack of time.

you should try the xera 4030 470kv.. Plenty of power and better flight times.

I am waiting for the new tail gears can't wait to get them. I guess it looks like they went out today from matt.

This will give me a 4.9 :1 gear ratio for the tail.

This way i can fly a 1800 head speed and not have any tail issues. Then i am hoping the lower head speed will give me my 4 minutes with a set of 2700mah lipos in a 12s config.

Autos great! I think 3300s would be a better choice though...really hard to get CG correct with the smaller packs.

I am going to try the 7S route for my build.

I was also worried about CG problems.
With a pack weighing 850g, I hope it will not be to much of an issue.

(beeflyer2) What is the weight on the 2700, 3300 mah packs?
8.7lbs sounds great. I will be happy with mine between 9-9.5lbs.

Looking forward to the 11T spur gear. Hope to get one before I finish my build.

My 12S 2600mAh packs are around 850g. 12S 3300mAh should be around 1050g.
Looking forward to the 11T spur gear. Hope to get one before I finish my build.
These are now available for dealers to order! Part number is 320-111H.

Flys awesome, extremely nimble! No mods required. This is a stock E5 with 4.5:1 (soon to be 4.9:1) tail gears and E7 boom, torque tube, boom supports and tail pushrod.

I'll try to get video this week.

Pieced the SSE5 together just enough to take pictures next to my Rush 700.
Airframe almost complete. Still have a lot to do before it ready to maiden.

A few flights on the E5SS with 7s 4400mah packs 1650 headspeed.
Handful of flights with 8s 4000mah which I like better due to a more constant 1650 headspeed.
Running Edge 713 mains with 105's and the tail holds great with 12t spur gear.
My good scale took a dump, but from what I can figure from my home scale is 9.2 to 9.5 lbs AUW.

Just curious...why do that(other than because you can) when you could fly an e7 with a bigger presence. What were the trade offs?
Pretty cool that you can do this without mods though

Excellent question. I did it mainly because I can but also because I don't currently have an E7 and I wanted to play with a 700.

Advantages over E7: Cheaper kit and lighter weight/lower disc loading.

Disadvantages: Tail fin is really too short for anything larger than 96mm blades and CG is difficult to acheive without hanging packs way off the front.

Having said that, it was a fun experiment but I will probably be converting back to a 600 very soon. This airframe is really ideal for that size IMO.

I wanted to try something different.
Really enjoying the low HS and light disc loading.

I would have gone with a E7 airframe if I was going for a high headspeed - 3D machine.

Got a new scale and the my SS weighs 9 pounds even. (actually 8lbs 15.9oz). Not sure if you would get a E7 that light.
Getting 7 min flights with 3.65v per cell on a 8S pack.

Was going to try a 12s set up but will save that for a E5S 600, with more traditional head speed.

I think beeflyer2 is right in that the E5 is ideal for a 600 size heli. Frame size it's almost identical to my Align 600N.

highrpm, I think is also is pretty neat that you just change out a handful of parts and it can be three different helicopters.

Got some video today and hope to post vid.
