Hi I was after some advise bit of a noob when it comes to this subject, if I want to run a low head speed on a heli and can compensate for tail speed with speed up gears or belt and gears, what other problems am I likely to encounter ?

1. On a ridged 4 blade scale head ?
2. On a trex style head with dampers ?

Keep being told it can't be done but why ?

For example 800mm blades on a stretched trex 700 running 800-900 rpm ?, can't I just produce softer head dampeners to help and increase pitch running asymmetrical blades ?

Please help as need INPUT INPUT MORE INPUT LOL

Cheers Darren.

Why do you want to run a head speed so low?

You will probably need a good ESC that will deal with low headspeed.

Sorry just to clarify they will be nitro or turbine powered and I just think they sound better and more realistic for scale machines, not going to be be doing any 3d looking more at larger scale machines !!

Don't forget the rear end
Increasing the size of the tail blades is a quick and easy fix. I've heard some guys have used cut down 450 mail blades to do this.

Another more expensive mod would be to increase the number of tail blades by going to a 3 or 4 blade tail.

I have a 700 to 800 Align mod too. In the process of checking out the 700 configuration before going to the 800 and I also want to lower head speed.

Please post whatever you come up with and how it performs.

Thanks for the Thread.

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

Darren,

I think that is the smart and most economical way to go. I'd start with the 150's and work you way smaller until the control sags a bit.

Don't forget to install a vertical tail fin that reaches the ground before the extended tail blades.

I'd appreciate what size tail blades you determine are best at the head speed you pick.

By the way where did you get those large tail blades?

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

FloridaHeli,

I have some NHP 120,130,140 which you get over there from all good heli shops. Then SAB do some nice 130mm which I got from HeliDirect and the 150mm came from Rcmarket in Belgium these have a very wide chord, also Vario do a big range but at big price.

Will keep you posted, I can't believe that no one on here has come up with any ideas it seems like every time I ask a technical question I don't get any replys but all the silly questions get answered thought this would of got more feedback or do people just go with the norm and not question why it has not or can't be done

I post a thread about max tail blade speeds and got very little feedback on that

Good luck.
