Question for you yanks. Why is there no middle ground here. I mean you all say "Don't ban our guns it's our right etc etc" Now I happen to agree with you there are so many bad guys with guns in your country you pretty much need one to protect your family no issue with that.

As an outsider looking in I'd suggest how about every household is allowed say a .38 revolver that should be plenty to stop the bad guy or 2 that are breaking in after all if you need more then 6 shots your a pretty crap shot and need some more training. If your a hunter fair enough bolt or lever action rifle D/barrell or pump action shotgun providing you can show you really do go hunting.

And here is my point this nutjob that killed these kids please correct me if I'm wrong had 3 guns and the main gun used a Bushmaster XM-15 .223-caliber semi-automatic assault-style rifle. Now when he was in a possition to reload he still had 2 other guns. From what I understand people tried to overpower him but were shot down and stood no chance.

Now if the same nutjob only had a 6 shooter there would be a very real possiblity he may have been overpowered while trying to reload.

Be honest here do you really need a assault rilfe for self-defence? hunting?

The issue you all see is guns or no guns you really need to look at the type of guns and how many. I read there was a guy over there planning on outdoing this nutjob at another school his wife called the cops when he was arrested he had 47 different guns in his house not sure if legal or not.

If you want to try to defend your home with a 38 when the criminals have AK47s that's your problem. Our Constitution guarantees our right to defend ourselves from criminals and a repressive government.
And your crime statistics mean nothing due to the size and population of your county compared to ours.

I'll make it as simple as I can hoggy. Our government has a real problem. They they now think we serve them, not vice versa. If we give them an inch, they'll take a mile. First it's assault rifles, then semi-auto handguns, then semi-rifles, then revolvers, then bolt actions rifles...with shotguns occuring at any point in between. You see, with our government, one chip is not enough. They'll keep going until we say enough is enough. Our "pat-downs" at the airport are a perfect example.
They will keep going until we can't defend ourselves against their tyranny, which is exactly what they want.
Tell you what, we'll ship you just one segment of our society and we'll see how fast you guys clamor for guns.
I LOVE guns, was raised with them. If you could wave a magic wand and NOBODY had them and I didn't fear my government, I'd be OK with that. But honestly, I'm more afraid of my government than I am a bad guy.

Baby uh1 the stats I posted are for the OP and the Title of this thread "Gun Control Works, Just Ask Australa" the population of Austrlia is just over 22 mil so the figures from 2010 sorta show that gun control can and does work. When you consider many USA citys with a population of 2-4 mil have much higher gun deaths per year then Australia.

Next topic you think that because the crims have AK47s you need what a M16. If you are a good shot and in your own home where you know the doors and windows halls rooms you should have no problem like I said if you are a good shot if your mind set is you need to spray your own home with many bullets then who knows maybe you will kill your own family in the crossfire. If you really want to defend your family from untrained crims the question is how much training do you have? someone trained with a knife in close combat stands a better chance in a house then someone with no aim and an automatic weapon.

Bottom line here I have the right to defend my family,home,and property from those who do not respect that and wish to do others harm. I will choose the tools to effectively do so. Our Constitution gives me that right. The government has no right to infringe on my right to do so.

I don't wanna get pinked so I'll just say this, the vast majority of gun related crimes are perpetrated by a small minority here. YOU don't have that problem. YOU also have very strict immigration rules (I know because I've looked into moving there and I could never get in), you also have no borders and no worries about undesirables just popping in on your society, if so, they're a hell of a swimmer....

Esco, you poor un-informed immigrant, gun control would not have prevented this horrible crime from happening.
Keeping this nut-job away from society would have.
His mother, knowing full well how messed up he was, gave him access to guns and taught him how to use them.
That is the crime, that was the cause here.

And Australia has quite a different history than the U.S.
If a country was NEVER allowed to have guns it is pretty easy to keep them out of the hands of the citizens.
So gun crime would be low.
But in the U.S. that was never the case.
Our freedoms were won with a gun from the beginning.
