McKackin,

No insecurites or bashing here---just stating fact---been there done nitro and they are slimmers and they are noisy---facts man-----just the facts!!!!!!!!
OK...Where do I start?

You're a fact guy?.....Is that right?
You should try to spell at least a handful of words right if you're going to critique someone.

Are you promoting a diet or a power choice?
Are you saying your weight is right?
Are you saying your fuel supply is right?

Wow bro...I'm 5'10" and 171lbs....How do I slim down?

I dare you to be right once before you preach about what we should think.....Just once buddy....Just once.

C'Mon Sherm.....seriously

I literally never use the word literally right.

.....tumble weed rolls past!......

....anyway....

E would win these discussions (nearly called them arguments then, don't know why! ) hands down if you could smack them about for 7+ minutes and recharge the packs without the need for a geny!

No they wouldn't. Nitro would still win on the "cool factor" for some.
I often get the following response from people flying two nearly identical helis:
-electric - "neat toy man!"
-Nitro - "Wow man...that thing is #$%@ing COOL!!!!!"
Oh, and the weight....Nitro still wins there too. Actually, 7+ minutes is doable with electric now....but the weight....and performance....NOT!

Yes but you can't smack an E geared for 7 min flights.

Uh-oh. Now we're going to be getting a bunch of videos of someone lofting around an electric for 7 minutes saying, "see, yes it can".

why not propane? just think of how long you could fly on a single tank of liquid. i know they used to do it, but i think they just used gas back then?

Probably for the same reason they don't use it in Top Fuel Racing.

Propane, good idea dyecocker1. I know they have propane engines for some go-ped scooters, maybe for some 500 size helis it could be a possibility for a future power system.

nitro rules electric drools

anyway...when they start developing battery technology, you know, 10,000 mAh pack at 45C the same COST, SIZE, and WEIGHT as the 5,000 mAh packs currently, for half the cost...then e wins hands down, right now the manufacturers are just raking in money on motors, ESC's and yes of course the batteries, always hear the argument the the e heli is cheaper to operate yet all the e fliers I see are constantly buying new batteries as they taco'ed a pack, pack went south early oh and yes my favorite, have to have the latest and greatest battery just released (you know if you pay attention they release at least 2 new "have to have" batteries twice a season)

anyhoo nitro still makes up 70%, if not more, of the current kit purchases in the US anyway, seems nitro is still the power of choice

Be sure the juice is worth the sqweeze

Both nitro and electric are great, but I still prefer gassers for my style of flying. Gassers can do most things the others do but at a slower pace and I can fly up to 20 minutes on a 16 ounce tank of gas!
Between the long flight times ,,,the extremely cheap fuel and my on board generator to run the electronics and keep my tiny NMH 2000 AA pack charged [in case the generator fails]I could go all day non stop on a gallon of gas! If lipos really come down in price I would then consider a big electric over nitro only because I hate the slime,,,been there done that.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Hey Shawn,
I respect you...I really do, and I think you're a very valuable member here. But, that simply was not very nice.
Happy new year.

I have no experience with Nitro but I think I am going to purchase a gasser for my second 'large' heli. Approximately a month and a half ago I plugged in my battery to adjust the FBL controller on my 550 and my esc fried along with many of my servos. I have not taken the heli apart yet to see exactly what else fried but I am at least $300 in the hole to replace the parts. I have no idea why plugging in my battery pack would do this but I do not have confidence in electrics at this point. I have taken all of the necessary precautions and I am pissed that this could even happen. I am afraid to even replace everything in case it happens again. Crashing is one thing but losing components for nothing is terrible. It appears that the differences are not that great so I may grab a nitro or gasser for my next project.

+2!!!!! We all know why this "thread" was started
No new or real info can be gathered from this, only going to escalate to endless bickering so that the "experts" have a new avenue to pontificate. Sad really, we need to grow as a community, not rehash the same old junk.......Ron
