Which one would you guys recomend for all around performance, and price reasons. I have a SK540 on my Raptor 90 but have never flown or setup a Vbar system.

Thanks for any opinions you can offer.

That depends on how you fly (sport, 3D, extreme 3D)? Also what size of helicopter?

SK540 is my new favorite for 3D but everyone will probably have a different opinion.

Vbar is the bench mark, not a question.
That said, Ive been flying my 540 for a week now on a Trex 600n and like it alot. At about $100 less, working well, you gotta ask if having the bench mark is worth it. Like everything it seems, its a value question, a judgment call.

No Free Lunch
One thing that I don’t like about Vbar is that they may you pay big time for each firmware upgrade. With all other brands that I have all firmware upgrades are free.

I swapped out 3 mini Vbars for the SK540 a few months back and don't regret it one bit. The Mini V is grossly over priced for what you get. The SK540 flies every bit as good, has all the same features aside from the vibe graphing, and is more vibration resistant. To top it off they don't take $50 out of your pocket for the upgrade to pro and subsequent major releases. The vBars fly great, but until they put pro on it, upgrade the Mini to the newer sensors, and drop the price by $100 then the Mini is a bad deal.

I love my Vbars but I have bought most of mine used with the Upgrade already paid for. If and when I have to buy new I will probably go with the SK540.

First of all, the firmware upgrades have always been free, the upgrade to the PRO software (which is not needed unless you have bad geometry or want a gov) has been a whole $45. Not a lot in the total cost of a heli IMO.
I have never owned a 540, I hear it is a nice unit. That being said I choose to fly VBAR as I know they will work, and do it better than any other unit out there. It is no coincidence that other companies have gone to the same software setups and features as Mikado. The other companies have all ben playing catch up, plain and simple. Some try and offer self leveling or rescue as an =incentive but most find there is only one unit that does that well and it is almost $500 retail.
OP, if you are flying nitro, you CANNOT use the mini. It is for use on electrics exclusively. The software is also tailored that way. You need a full size VBAR if you want to use it on a nitro.......Ron

No, the firmware upgrades have not been free. They charge for major releases. I spent $150 upgrading 3 older 4.0 black Vbars to 5.0.

That was when the PRO upgrade first came out. Yep it was $45 but 5.0 > 5. 1.> 5.2 > 5.3 have been free even if you didn't purchase the pro software.

Exactly what I said, Major releases paid, point releases unpaid. They have said that will continue in the future, be ready to kick in another $45 when it goes to version 6.

Those people who wanted 5 Express from 4 had to pay.

Governor issue...The best governor on the market when combined with the HobbyWing sensor! Yeah, that's an issue.

I also have the SK540. It will be hard for you to tell the difference between it and the V-Bar. Unless you try to use the mini with nitro, bad idea.

Nick, I agree with Ron on the V-Bar upcharge. There was never an upcharge from 3.? to 4.? to 5.? The only charge was going Express to Pro, and for the lowly sum of $45 you got a governor as well as more flexibility and improved flight performance.

I do agree that Mikado needs to consider prices charged by other players in the market when setting their V-Bar prices. Everything coming out of Germany (and America) is overpriced compared to Asian markets (except Japan). The Chinese manipulate currency rates and subsidize their manufacturers. These are unfair practices. I would like to see worldwide import tariffs of about 100% on all Chinese goods to thwart this. Until the Chinese start playing fair it is necessary and the right thing to do.

When I get in front of a real computer ill search for it, they said that the upgrades (not point releases) would be charged from here on.

Lol. I have a mini Vbar NIB. I received in logo 600 combo. I planned on selling it when I bought combo. Was thinking about trying it but now I think I'll stick with SK540.

V-Bar all across for me. I know it works, I know how to program it (could almost do it with me eyes closed), and that is why I'm sticking with the V-Bar. I say choose one you like, stick with it, and know it inside out.

A mini V on a 600se is perfect. Nothing will outperform it. Most people that say you can hardly tell between the 540 and the VBAR are really sayIng you can tell
Once again I will have to fly one to see but it would be nice if it could perform as well, then the VBAR price would have to drop even more
